:dunno: What do you do as a career? I'm a little at a loss how you would not know where to find conferences related to your job. If you follow any standards period you can almost bet there are numerous conferences on the topic. Then you have industry trade shows which cover specific topics. You do automation? Well there's huge conferences on that topic out in Germany if you are so inclined. Same goes with the academic side of things. Hell there's conferences on knitting too...

Tips?

Conferences I attend would have nothing to do with you

Here's a company that has built a big multinational business on presenting conferences. Maybe poke around their website to see what you can find? https://www.canadian-business-conferences.com/

FYI,

you don't have to submit a paper in order to attend a conference.

IEEE ESTMP conference? It's in Edmonton this year in March.
Lots of electrical technical seminars, panel discussions, and tutorials.

Spend a few days in Edmonton, watch a movie at the VIP theatre w/ beers lol.

Hell, I think I might be going to that too, budget pending haha.

Make your own? Charge it to the company?

I'll meet you somewhere, then it'll seem legit. Vegas?

Find a city you want a vacation in -> Search for list of conferences when the weather is nice.

Unfortunately Power Gen International "Conference" is not in Vegas in 2016 but Orlando instead.

However Power Gen Europe is in Italy. Can't beat all expenses paid to Italy.

That is tight but doable in Vegas if you stay off strip.

My conference in Vegas in Nov only cost me ~$3500. That said, I should have looked into Germany one and it may have been not much more.

Actually CAMPUT with hotel, flights, and conference fees is looking around $2900 CAD. So hard to beat that. Without going to Edmonton obviously. haha

Montreal is nice. Too bad it's not close to F1 so you can stick around for the festival.

yeah that's not how conferences work.

if your paper is accepted, then you usually get the registration fees waived.

If you submit a paper and it's rejected and you still want to attend you still need to pay the registration fees. if that was the case nobody would be paying fees because htey'd spend 1hr putting together a crap paper to submit.

Usually these specialized conferences can see anywhere from 50 attendees for the ultra specialized ones to a few hundred people.

if it's a big general conference like an annual SPIE or IEEE conference, they can have 1000's of attendees (I went to the SAE show in detroit a few years ago and there were easily 3000 attendees.

Maybe in your industry, not in mine, haha.
