I have a question for you guys. How much notice do I have to give my employer in regards to resignation from the company? I have been with them for about 5 1/2 years altogether. The last 2 1/2 being on full time. This year, they also gave me 3 weeks holidays (counting my 3 years part-time). I know it is generally 2 weeks, but I'm not sure if it was longer after 5 years of employment or not.

My mom knows, but I don't want to ask her. Seeing as I plan on resigning from my dads company :dunno:

Well, he's not the sole owner. He also has a business partner that runs the Edmonton branch- and his wife enforces that everything within our group of companies is done "by the book."
And, I don't get treated different from any other employee- so I can't act different from every other employee.

Only a week? I thought it was atleast 2 weeks? My job sucks ass! Nobodys gonna want it. I'm really surprised I put up with it as long as I have. One guy I work directly with is the biggest idiot. He is seriously the dumbest person I know. And his buddy is the biggest asshole I have ever met. The asshole has been here 6 years f/t and the idiot a month longer than me also f/t (but he's also the biggest brown noser)

You must give 4 weeks notice for any time period worked more than 4 years but less than 6 years.

Easy.

If you work for less than 3 months, you can quit on the day you say it to him.

If you work for more than 3 motnhs, you are 'supposed' to give 2 weeks notice from your resignation.

any less than 2 weeks and your employer can hold your last check.

Okay, thanks for your help guys. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and will most likely give 4 weeks notice (also because in our industry- a lot of people are gone with pay the day they hand in their notice) so I figure I'll give 4 weeks notice. That way I know I'll get atleast 2 paid weeks off   :D
