Here is your most random Beyond thread for the week.

As a kid when going around for car rides with my folks, we would commonly listen to Lite 96. I think my folks enjoyed enjoyed Don, Joanne and the Coach so it was always on. For this reason, I ended up developing a certain (bizarre) nostalgic fondness towards the frequently played songs at that time on that station. Examples:

Fine Young Cannibals - She Drives Me Crazy
Jacksoul - Still Believe in Love, Somedays
Amanda Marshall - Birmingham, Dark Horse
Deep Blue - Breakfast at Tiffanys
Duncan Sheik - Barely Breathing
Loreena McKennitt - The Mummers' Dance
Semisonic - Closing Time
Macy Gray - I Try
Jann Arden - ...

I was chatting with a buddy about this the other day, and he had a pretty similar experience.

I'm trying to think of other songs songs that were always played on that station. Any ideas?

Uggh, lite radio makes me want to put a gun in my mouth.

Haha...funny thread. I USED to listen to Up 97, but they just recently changed their format to completely "light rock" and it's just a bit TOO light. So I'm switching all over the place. Jack, Q107, XL103 and a lot on KOOL 105.
In the morning I listen to AM660. (How's THAT for being an old person)

I grew up on Classic rock, but more and more I listen to Songza and put on the EDM playlist!! ;)

Me too.

Yet, so many people eat up this -cough- females - cough- mindless and redundant shit music.

There's always a "however" however:). That is, quality musical artists have to put out a commercial song to put food on the table, yet it isn't their essence. An example of this from the aforementioned bands in this thread, is the FYC. Probably one of the most underrated bands that I've heard.

And that goes for Loreena McKennitt and her band as well.

Oddly enough, at work I have Kool 101.5 streaming. Best radio station that plays current Top 40s as well as awesome oldies. I live in Edmonton by the way so I love hearing those traffic reports in Calgary LOL

Satellite radio ftw. Love surfing my favorite stations (Lithium, Octane, First Wave, 70s, 80s, 90s, Ozzy's Boneyard, Chill)

On those lazy, cold, winter days on the weekend I actually have Stingray's "The Spa" (http://music.stingray.com/en_CA/channels/The+Spa)channel playing in the house. Can easily slip into a coma listening to that. It's perfect!

But you're still into classic rock.

This

I finally had to use the fm2 channel in a car, programming in different stations in my girlfriends car so I could quickly skip all of those stations

Right?

Please say yes :) Oh yeah. I still have my Zepplin, Beatles, AC/DC, Fleetwood Mac etc. Grew up listening to side two of Abbey Road every weekend.

But I have a very ecclectic taste. I will listen to Long John Baldry, Charlie Parker, LMFAO, Avicii, Alan Jackson, Johnny Cash, Calvin Harris, Katy Perry all in the same sitting.

Depends what I'm doing. Work is classic rock. Working out is EDM. Road trip is a little bit of everything.

I have seriously heard Hotel California on the radio every single day for the last 4 or so weeks, regardless of where I happen to be at the time. Completely random.

:dunno:

Hehe, I think I know why Hotel California is being played.

The headphone makers have been doing 15-minute tours. You could actually listen to a pair of $50,000 Orpheus if you were willing to wait in line.

And nearly everyone picks Hotel California for at least one of the three songs. And once it starts, it tends to snowball into a comparison of quality insanity, even across broadcast systems.

I listen to it almost exclusively, drives Baygirl and the kids nuts, but for some reason, I really like having it on. I seriously can leave it on all day, and not be bothered one bit.

Not that lite 97 would play it, but a couple songs I listened to a lot on the radio in the 90's were:
Insane in the brain - Cypress Hill
I would do anything for love - Meatloaf
Baby got back - Sir-Mix-alot
Metallica's black album
2 unlimited
plus a bunch more I can't think of right now.

Kokoot just hung the fuck up with the third caller claiming that AIDS is Gods love.

Way to go Kokoot!
