What is this thing on my bedroom door?

I moved into this place last year and still haven't figured out what this is. Any ideas? It's on the back of the master bedroom door.

Does the door have hooks on it? Could be when they hung stuff it could be tucked in to not have it flop everywhere.

You could be right. There is a hook above this on the door. Maybe they hung something heavy from it that would swing with the door. I'd say this is the most likely so far!

I thought of this, but slippers fall right through. What other kinda shoes would someone keep in their bedroom?
