Anyone have experience successfully registering a car they bought, through a private sale, with only the back of the prior-owner's registration slip filled out and signed?

Is that enough for the purchaser to register the car, or would the purchaser need a bill of sale too?

I've done this a few times and had no issues.

I usually do both the back of the registration and I make a bill of sale just to cover bases. What the buyer wants to use is up to him. I like the bill of sale because then I can make a copy for my own records.

I've registered vehicles with either or in both Saskatchewan and Alberta

Its really dependent on the registry office. I've been denied myself personally and had to get a bill of sale.

Make sure you get a copy, and a copy of the buyers info somewhere.

Sold a truck, 6-8 months later get a call from Lethbridge Police saying my truck was blocking someones driveway and I should move it. I was currently driving my 'new' truck, and told the officer that was impossible since I was driving it at that moment not even realizing that he was referrering to the truck I sold months prior.
Guy who bought it never insured, registered or put a plate on it. Sent a copy of the bill of sale and all contact information to the police and never heard back again about the truck.
