View Full Version : Enmax - My Energy IQ - usage compared to nearby homes

ExtraSlow

Looks like Enmax has changed the usage reporting format they tuck into my monthly bill. They now have a report that compares usage with nearby homes.
It also attempts to combine electricity and natural gas on an energy equivalent basis.m

I use 3% less natural gas, 95% more electricity and 53% combined more than "similar" homes. Mostly due to the huge AC unit I run five months of the year.

What do you think? Does this help you?

Where do you see that? I just got mine last week and it's not on there?

Heating the garage seems to be an issue. Haha

And the air conditioner.

Haha, so true. Wife likes to keep the house at 23 all year round. Saves on AC, but burns nat gas like a Mofo. I'm also heating an extra 900 SQFT in the winter. Got to keep the cars warm.

My graphs all look similar to Benyl's however with slightly less electricity usage. I'd be interested to see a beyonder results that doesnt have "your home" as a significant user above similar homes.

I dont know where the people using basically no energy im my neighborhood are, every house for 0.4km is practically the same up here in aspen.

You should also look into how in about an eight minute span you have used 4% of your battery....;)

I had to download photo bucket over LTE because imgur wasn't working.

It was also at 100% for 20 minutes before that.

Do you wash your clothes in the sink and dry them on a rack? Even when I lived in a Condo i think I used more than 100 kwh a month.

We have a communal laundry room in the basement. I also don't have enough space to have a laundry set in my condo, as I use that space for hobby storage (golf clubs, snowboard gear, hockey gear, etc.)

I worked out the math and if I do laundry twice a month based on the cost vs. buying a new set, it would take me 5.33 years to break even.

It's unfortunate that updating your house profile doesn't immediately update the cost comparison - I guess you have to wait for the next billing cycle.

Considering we have a tenant in our basement who works from home and has his own facilities, I expected far worse. We're generally on average, or in between the average and efficient homes.

Yeah, I'm saving the environment... that's right.

402 KW, 38% more than similar homes. 850 Square foot condo. 2 people in our house. I have to assume its mostly the appliances. The fridge we run pretty cold, run the bathroom vent fans a lot. We have an electric HVAC which explains a lot. We run the house at 23 Celsius almost all the time.

Changed the home config so it will take another billing cycle to better compare to similar units I am guessing.

Yep :banghead: I only set the garage to be 7.5ºC and it's fully insulated so I doubt it could be all from that.

The only other thing that uses a ton of electricity would be the previously mentioned baseboard heaters in the basement suite I would think... Hell the washrooms have underfloor tile heat but I have them always off in order to save costs.

2,800 sqft living space attached 2013 build. Heat set to 22C, 19C when not in the home ( Nest Auto Away).

I am pretty sure all the electricity comes from my saltwater fish tank. I also run my furnace fan 15 minutes an hour to move air around and keep things more even.

Slowly replacing lights with LED as they burn out which im hoping offsets the tank a bit...

Overall not bad, my average monthly utility bill is like $~275 with winter heat and summer AC.

I have no comparisons on mine. Just shows me my usage for NG only on a nice line chart.
Maybe because I'm not about to handout info about my house, etc to EnMax.

Nope, nope and nope. I have a boatload of 50 W Halogen floods as the main lighting however (approx 30 on the main floor + a bunch more on the others) so it does add up... planning to change them to LEDs as they burn out.

I bought two at CT probably 6 or 7 years ago. $30 on sale for $20 each IIRC in the isle with the outlets and outlet timers.

Doesn't seem to show on their site now though.

We're in a south-facing ~900sq.ft condo. Definitely helps out with the heating lol.

Although I'm surprised the electricity isn't higher. Plasma TV, computer is on 24/7, high energy stereo devices...
