I have a degree in Business and have been working in purchasing for the past 5 years+. Lately I've been considering studying to become an Architect and wondering if anyone has any experience in the field? What can you tell me about it? Do you like it?

From what I can tell on UofC's website I need a degree to get into the 3 year Master of Architecture program. Is there anything else I have to know about that?

I'm an artist, but I also have a technical/engineering background so I feel like architecture might be a good choice.

Good luck, I think architect is a cool job in nature but they can be the most self centered pricks ever. There can be strong hierarchy in the office based on my experience working with them.

when i went to SAIT for civil eng tech, i had 3 classmates that had already taken architectural engineering technology but couldn't find work so they took civil in stead. architects are like the cyclists of the engineering world...:poosie:

My Dad said it best: Being an architect is like being a concert pianist. Only a handful (in the world) can become what every one of them aspires to be. For the rest - they at best teach piano to little kids or just continue it as a hobby.

We have two high level architects in the family and I can tell you this, if you chose the profession, do it for the love of the work, not for the money.

Kind of sums up every career path.

Couldn't imagine how boring the majority of the work is.... 8hrs a day of CAD can make you go crazy...

I have a relative who did it. For every cool project there was reworking 20 different strip malls in Airdrie over and over.
