I have to say I'm so incredibly impressed with both lenses. The Sigma rendering is stunning and the dock works quite well.

The Nikon's manual focus is leaps and bounds better than my 16-35, I'm talking fairly close to Voigt- and Zeiss-like tactile feel. Still overall feels like a toy because of the extremely light weight (a plus actually) and the image quality is impressive, very excited to get out and try some astro work with this.

Eric, looks like everyone is very excited to see the little one!

Here's an old re-edit of Lake Minnewanka from Cascade summit, a day that was incredibly(!) hazy from the forest fires. I tried the dehaze function in LR and mostly seemed to just push the saturation and exposure way up, but with some tweaking I got it to an acceptable level that wasn't HDR eye-ripping. Would love another crack at taking this shot on a better day.

So..... Today McBain diagnosed my T5. I guess its not my 1.4 50mm or cpl... the autofocus is out of calibration. Only really notice it wide open to about f3 at a distance you would take a picture of a car at. All the focus is on the bottom in that situation. I doubt it'll be worth fixing.

Didn't want me upgrade right now, but minus well. So looking at 7d or 6d.
Also, no idea why flickr won't show my picture settings.

Windy day at nose hill

Edit:photobucket is killing my resolution, I should really get a flickr account :rofl:

I tried out some hdr settings for the second picture, but I am wondering if I shouldn't have used longer exposure time instead, Any thoughts or tips?Working with my dog can make it a bit challenging but I'm having fun trying different settings with nose hill, even if the picture isn't 100% the background makes up for it :rofl:

Also inherited this D150. Its in really good shape, but I just don't think I have room or time for it. I am starting to fall for it and its means a lot to my mom and grandma. Hopefully a friend can give it a good home.

Got harassed by a security guard at the Suncor building today. I was out on the corner taking some long exposures. He asked me if I had asked the building managements permission to take a photo of the building and then asked for my name. :rofl:

That's basically how it went. I think he was less on a powertrip and more just a slower person who couldn't wrap his head around the situation.

Him: "You taking a picture of the building?"
Me: "Yes, along with the other buildings" *shows latest photo*
Him" "Did you ask permission from building management"
Me: "No, why would I do that? This buildings been in thousands of photographs"
Him: "I'm going to need your name"
Me: "No you can't have my name, there's no reason you need it"
Him: "I'm going to need your name"
Me: "I'm going to need YOUR name"
Him: "Ok, but I need your name first"

Went on for a few more minutes and then he started the whole "you're standing on private property" thing. I told him I was almost done and he just stood and watched me from the doorway. :rofl:

I'll PM you...there was a bit of a problem with overcrowding one of the Northern Hawk Owls this year that was always in the same spot...he doesn't come back anymore which is sad...he was awesome.

The whole area where these Great Greys are found is generally pretty busy with people trying to find them...they have varying degrees of comfort with people.

That's a great horned owl. They're really anti-social when it comes to people in general.

Is it a great horned?
That's what I thought based on the horns, but he looked much different from other's I've seen. Very grey and white and different facial structure. Others I've seen were very brown and had sharper faces.

Yeah he didn't seem to like me and perched as high as possible. Was very vocal, probably because of the other owl in the area.

The only other one in Alberta with the pronounced ear tufts are the long eared owls, and their faces are very different, and they're incredibly rare.

The great horned owls have several colour morphs...

Went to Vegas, but didn't feel like hauling my 6d around. It was horrible in the summer hauling my T5 around. I knew my s6 had a pretty decent cell camera, but never played around with it much... I was very happy with its performance.

Thanks! I desperately need one of those new Lee Super Stoppers when they come out. On Saturday I was using a Big Stopper and F32 and holy crap does that show every piece of dust on your sensor.

Those are all 90-120 seconds, I'd like to be able to go to 5-6 minutes and stay at f11 or so.
