Putting in basement bathroom and miscommunication with plumber he didn't instal one.

How important are these?

Are they standard when doing below grade bathroom?

How low are you in relation to ground water?

my basement floor is about the same depth as groundwater, when its high water in spring.

took an inch of water coming through sump pump hole when the flood in 2013 happened, but that was just when the power went out and pump stopped.

I believe they are part of he building code now, after the past few floods.

Home insurance can also be denied if they are not installed and there is a sweage back up, unless of course it is outlined in your policy

You're certain there isn't one in there already on the main sewer line exiting the house from when it was built? You could get it scoped to verify. Should be an access somewhere on the floor as well I would assume.

Back flow preventers don't close if it's a slow back flow. Found that out. Needs to have enough velocity to close the flap. But doesn't matter, still need one and probably an insurance thing too like Rick said.

House is from 1996. Is there a year they become standard in all houses?
