View Full Version : So who is taking off their winters already?

I can't believe I actually am part of this crowd, but even I have had enough and took my winters off last week! I just can't justify commuting on my studded winters anymore this year with the weather we have been having. I know we are going to still have a dump of snow at some point this spring but really, I can deal with a bad couple days on my all seasons...

Anyone else in the early switch over camp this year?

Debating doing it this weekend..although my Si really, really sucks on cold/snowy roads with the nittos. Urban X South Blizzacs have done me good!

Yeah Bob, I'm thinking of doing mine Sunday. If there's a huge dump, I'll just swap back. I swapped winters on too early...what's a little bit more work.

If you are swapping tires and/or get a shop to do it, I'd hold off. But if you have a second set of wheels and can do it in your garage in 10 minutes you might as well. It's easy enough to go back if we hit winter again.

Probably swap the E out and leave them on the Armada for a few more weeks.

Didn't get around to swapping them at all last year... Maybe this year I'll get the summer rims repaired and actually put them on... Eventually

But I have been taking advantage of the weather and getting a little bike and Datsun time in

Thinking of swapping the tires on the wife's car this week. I think i'll wait till April for my car... they are performance winters so its atleast bearable right now.

Remember that snow tires are not just for snow but also low temperatures ... even on bare pavement.

Snows will work better than all-seasons (never mind summers) at temps below approx. +7C.

Cheers,

I am really looking forward to switching back to my summers, in the snow the winters are great but on dry payment they let loose way to much. At least 10 times this winter I have been thinking why no go then notice my traction control is going bat shit crazy.

Still a few weeks for me for my car. My truck probably this weekend. Truck has all seasons and the car has extreme summers

I gonna keep my winter beater insured, so I can use if needed. I plan to pull my good dd out of storage to use early this year

Not all tires are made to the same standards though... Only tires I could get in the size I needed this year (old ones were back ordered) are pure garbage, I can light them up at half throttle in the dry, not really going to last long with our current weather

I was thinking about swapping all out this weekend - mudders on the Taco, all seasons on the RX and summers on the Mini. If shit goes south, at least I have new all seasons on the RX.

If you let me drive your "fully loaded" truck once a month we can arrange that ;)

Lows down to -6 and snow next week, still keeping my winters on to be safe.

I think it's around 9C and below that winters are still beneficial.

Calgarians taking off your winters in mid March? Are you new here? Let me be the first to say I TOLD YOU SO! My studded tires remain clickity-clickity until at least April 1.

To those saying no regrets.... well obviously, it's been ridiculously warm for the majority of the recent past. The regret comes when we receive another inevitable snowfall.

You do realize how quick it is to swap a set of wheels? So what, if snows and and I spend 10 minutes switching back to winters

Yea just saw the 14 day outlook and it was cooler and wetter. No rush to stick on summers yet (I dont use all seasons, just UHP summer tires).

Swapped to new summers from tirebob last Friday. If winter hits again, I'll just use the truck. However, if I had to drive and not fly to work, I'd be on winters til June, the amount of snow out here is ridiculous, I wish it were the mountains.

Putting the wheels on and off doesn't take very long at all. I store my wheels in the basement and I like to clean them before I put them to storage so that takes a bit of time. It's gonna be at least a couple more weeks for me. I got performance summer tires, it's still a bit cold in the morning.

How did you find out the street temp??....Just SUPER curious...

He stuck his hand out the window and used his Milwaukee 2266-20 Laser Temp-Gun while driving.

Rich, you can park in my Quonset if you like. About 4000sf of covered parking. Only downside is it's 50 minutes east of the airport.

If I didn't have to buy new summers first, I'd have them on already. Only because I have everything mounted separately and could switch back in half an hour

Roads were weird today. I have winters, but have my all seasons on now.

Took Stoney from Northwest to Southeast. Some areas were perfectly fine, others were very icy. Had a white knuckle moment taking the off ramp onto 114th. On 114th, had to flash my lights to alert someone I wasn't going to be able to stop for the intersection. Probably should have been driving 30 the whole way to be safe, but the nearly bare areas made me a little overconfident I guess. One intersection was so slick I was sliding sideways on the ice even though I had come to a full stop.

Not a ton of fun. Going to leave my winters on longer next season for sure - regardless of whether or not we have another freakishly warm winter.
