Looking at getting a used 2001 MB ML430, comparing it with a 2004 Acura MDX. Anybody know anything about the 01 ML430s? How does it compare with the 99-00 ML430s? or 02-04 ML500s? Obviously ML500 has a bigger engine, but I'm more interested to know if there's anything specifically wrong with that year and model. thx!

00-01 ML 430's are better than the 99's. The major changes were the addition of bigger brakes (ML 55 brakes), rear side airbags and the MCS radio. They are also more refined and most of the problems have been worked out. One problem with all of the ML 430's is the handling. The weight distribution was not done correctly so the ML 430 never handled as well as the ML 320.

The ML 500 is a huge improvement over the ML 430. The handling issue was resolved and you get more for you money. They added automatic climate control, rear air, xenon, etc. The ML 500 was a much better value than the 430.

woh sml ... to go from a Lude to a ML? That's quite a drastic change. Sick and tired of flooring the Lude to get some decent power eh? Me too ... and I really miss being able to have passengers in the car during outings or snowboarding. I've been looking at the new A4 1.8T Avant but doubt I will have the money to get it any time soon though
