Hopefully, Disney doesn't water down the Star War's franchise by overdoing the number of films similar to what's been happening with the superhero genre. Going to see a Star War's movie was always an event just because they came out so rarely. I hope that won't be lost.

The teaser looks like it has all the ingredients that define Star Wars, so it has my attention and I'm excited but am I excited for the right reasons...

I actually had very little interest in this movie until now. It actually doesn't look that bad.

Especially if Donnie Yen is running around with a bow staff in it.

Disney didn't buy Star Wars to make 3 movies. They're gonna bleed that rock dry. Expect a Star Wars movie every year for the next decade. Just look at the Pirates movies, Transformers, or all the Marvel crap. It'll never end.

Star Wars was basically designed to sell toys to kids.

"Selling out" is fundamental to the brand. Just roll with it.

Seems almost identical to The Force Awakens so far....other than the force stuff...

...random outcast young girl alone against the odds is the only person that can save us...

Disney bought this storyline to make movies, I get that, I just hope they don't become bland and overly formulaic.

For those that don't know what Rogue One is, it's the team who gets the plans before Episode 4 on how to destroy the Death Star - it's basically the lead up/entire plot of A New Hope (the plans Princess Leia had all along).

I read that James Earl Jones pre-recorded like 3 movies worth of his voiceover stuff in advance. his voice is essential to Vader and he might croak at any minute.

It is a pretty fantastic movie. I liked it a lot more than 7.

It's a must see and debatably one of the best in the franchise imo.

I haven't watched a trailer.

Never read one article.

Have not talked to anyone about this.

I don't want to spoil it, I want it just to amaze me, but I do want to know one thing. Is Rey and BB-8 in this movie? My daughter won't come with me to see it if they are not, and she is the only star wars fan in my family LOL!

Without going into spoilers, this is a hard PG-13. So make sure she is old enough because it gets dark.

Empires still #1 for me. This one is great but lacks character development.

overall one of the best star wars movie, on the top 3 for me.
kids will probably not like this but most adults, especially those that grew on the original will enjoy it.

i hope Big Bang Theory makes an episode out of K-2SO, he's basically Sheldon if he were a robot

I liked the move, really gave you a glimpse of how awesome an R rated Star Wars film would be.
Makes me wonder what the original cut of the film was going to be like, and really makes me wish that Disney would just grow some bawls make an R rated SW movie, can't forget about the kids though...

I agree with this not being a 5-12 year old move. I had a mom with a couple of young kids sitting behind me, you could tell the nome was super tense and the kids in easy from their muffled wispers, gasps, and just a tense feeling.

I'd say leave the under 10s home for this one.

Star Wars will never go R because of theme park investments.

PG-13 (Surprised is not 14A in Canada but PG for Rogue) is as far as they will go.

I read that the original theatrical cut before the reshoots was actually not as dark as the one we're seeing. Remember in the trailer, Jyn is walking across the catwalk and the regular TIE fighter pops up?

Apparently that was their ride home. So clearly a darker film was approved when they did reshoots and decided to kill everyone off.

I wondered why that very prominent scene from the trailer was missing in the film..

Overall good film. Not enough character development. I didn't feel too emotionally connected to most of the rebel characters.

I did think Jyn made for a better protagonist than Rey. More realistic, more relatable. (It was ridiculous in TFA how Rey was a jack of all trades perfect at everything)

I don't care too much for blatant fan service. Those were the parts I probably enjoyed the least about the film. For example, I thought it was completely unnecessary to
explicitly SHOW Princess Leia in this film. Everyone knows what was to happen next at the end of the film and how we get to ANH. I don't understand why movies these days have to hold the audiences hands the entire way because we're apparently incapable of connecting the dots.
Wasn't as bad as the last 10 minutes of Revenge of the Sith in that regard though.

Because people are still saying why Chewbecca isn't in this one. Remember, as much as nerd culture has become more mainstream, most of the movie public still don't follow as closely.

Very pleasantly surprised, the trailers had me pessimistic but it seems the reshoots really turned the film around - some notably bad stuff from the trailers were gone from the final production. Action scenes were amazing and Jan was a much better protagonist than Rey. The story was pretty tight and pacing seemed solid, although the first third seemed a hair rushed. Ending sequence was probably the best in the entire franchise.

Definitely wasn't a perfect film, though. The CGI of human beings was some uncanny-valley shit and very distracting. I kinda get why they did it with Tarkin but I would have rather they found a way to minimize Tarkin's involvement in the story rather than try to bring Cushing back from the dead, so to speak. CGI cameo at the end was just unnecessary. Vader's big line was cringey as all hell.

But still, definitely one of the better Star Wars films, I enjoyed it more than Ep. VII on the whole.

Went to go see it tonight, half way thru when chirrut imwe was talking the screen went black. Figured was part of the movie as the sound was still playing and was doing some first person view, and the lights came on everyone got kicked out cause the movie shit the bed. Cineplex :guns: :guns:, came out with 2 free movie passes.

Why is it that past Ep6, the franchise has not been able to get Vader right?

Also, I wish they had just shown the back of Leia, instead of cutting to her CGI face.

Essentially, Rogue One is a movie about (mostly) ordinary people who are committed to their sides of the war. Outside of Vader, there aren't any Jedi or use of the Force.

That's probably why it didn't feel so Star Wars-y to you. If we took out those parts, it's probably still the same movie.
