I'm looking to get a full pig that is cleaned out and sewed up for a pig roast for my hockey teams year end party.

I'm sure there is a joke or two in there somewhere but does anyone know where I can purchase one?

Also there will be approximately 12-15 guys what is the recommended size for that? I was thinking 50lbs?

A 50 lb pig will be more than enough for that size crowd.

You can call just about any butcher in town and they can prob hook you up, I got mine last year from red deer lake meats who is just off 22x in the south. I believe superstore whole sale sells frozen pigs in smaller sizes.

Just address how you want the pig dressed when you place your order so there's no surprises.

Rent one, it's costly. I've done it once and while the concept is really cool, you can buy the whole pig already done at Center St BBQ for the same price.

If you want the Chinese type BBQ Express on center st will do a whole suckling pig for you. If you want the Filipino type mark joels as mentioned above. There's a place that does the Vietnamese kind too with lemongrass but I forgot where that was

Call up Illichmanns Sausage Shop, its located in the SE, german style deli/bakery. The butchers name is Ken who's also the owner, he should be able to hook you up.

Chinese-style suckling pig beats Filipino-style suckling pig any day (in Calgary, at least).

gong kee in forestlawn makes a good lechon (filipino roast pig). i think around $200 for a large, but don't quote me on that.
