View Full Version : 4" dia dowels etc for Connect 4?

I am building an outdoor giant Connect 4 game.
I screwed up and the 'pucks' I was making are all off by about 1/8". (Stupid me using OD when I should've used ID) . Anyways, I don't want to remake the sides so I need to make 42, 4" discs/pucks/whatever and I really don't feel like cutting them by hand so was thinking maybe there's a solid 4" dowel and I can just slice it like bread.
Help and suggestions welcome.
And no, air hockey pucks are too small and too expensive

if you are off by only 1/8" why not just get some plastic and cut strips and glue it on? Might be easier than redoing everything.

What if you went with like pvc they would be like rings but the supplies are readily available? If not your best best might be some plywood and a 4 inch hole saw, I have a few sheets I could spare.

I found the largest dowels I could find were 3 inch...and they were fuckin expensive.

Yeah thought of that too but wouldn't really be able to "connect 4" if you're just looking through holes. And the hole saw made discs that are slightly smaller than 4". I already have 3" holes lined up and spaced properly so that when the 4" (measurement has to be exactly 4") discs are aligned for a row/column/diagonal, they line up with the holes. Right now the discs stack but by the time they reach the top two rows, there is about a 1/4" gap between hole vs disc. if that makes sense

Possibly a plastic plumbing product or a heavier/denser foam product? Michaels may be a place to try. Colored floor foam tiles - Canadian Tire (http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/kids-reversible-tiles-24-in-0686044p.html#.VzE8IPkrLcs), maybe at Toys'R'Us as well or Malwart.

Call up Industrial Plastics and Paint - they might be able to make something for you or even have something you could use.

Home Depot also has an adjustable hole saw that will cut up to 7" in diameter.

They make adjustable hole saws:

OR

OR

I'm not clear what material you are using for the pucks, but assuming it is something like plastic/plexi, or MDF, or plywood, the adjustable hole saws should work as long as you don't put too much pressure on it.

You could always call Norwesco... They might be able to get you exactly what you need in a plastic / polymer of sorts.
