My brother went for a long solo cruise recently. Gets home and parks the bike in the garage. Next ride, we notice his plate...

To be fair, the exact same thing happened on my Ninja 650 a couple weeks ago. I did the same thing with zipties, then on Tuesday I got to work and my plate was gone completely. I'm not sure whether the other side snapped or if high speeds on Stoney twisted the plate and broke the zip ties.

This thread is actually a nice reminder to go pick up some rubber washers for my new plate :P

The new plates suck. Corrode and rot super easily with the salt shit we use on the roads now.

I lost a plate on my r1 and my busa. Both times when I got home there was a tiny bit of plate under my bolts. That's all.

I used my plate as a mud flap on the bike and never had issues :nut:

(had wheel off as I was replacing the brake disc)

I had an old 1980 Yamaha SR250 that vibrated so bad I lost 3 plates off that bike.

I had to come up with a very creative means of keeping it on the bike.

I told my brother the same thing. Give that a go and see what happens.

These engines sure love to jiggle violently haha.

Earlier this week, my brother was returning home from Calgary on his bike. He was a few kilometres from home when his bike started making a very strange noise. It sounded like 'pings' coming from the exhaust. They increased and decreased with rpm.

He gets it home and begins looking at the tail end of the exhaust pipes and discovers that the bracket that holds the tail end of the pipes together and holds them to the bike has completely broke in half.

He calls Harley, they have the part in stock. Before he leaves to go get it, we decide to remove the bracket so the people at Harley know exactly what part he needs. As soon as we unbolt the lower pipe from the bracket, the whole pipe is completely loose and just comes right off of the bike! Turns out, the nuts and washers that bolt the head of the pipe up to the cylinder had spun themselves off the threaded posts at some point.

He goes to Harley, tells them what happened, gets the proper parts and we replace and bolt everything back up. We started checking other various nuts and bolts to make sure everything was tight. The nuts on the other pipe had begun to spin themselves off as well.

Here's a pic of the broken bracket.
