I was selected for a webcam interview and online assessments at Suncor.

The first assessment is an hour long assessment called "professional" which test you on math, problem solving, etc, the second assessment is called Hogan.

I've never done assessments like this before so I wanted to know if anyone has done this before? Any tips would be appreciated.

Yeah apparently they implemented some new hiring process. They require you to do some webcam recordings for interview questions. You only get to record your answer once, you have 30 seconds to read the questions and prepare your answer, then you have 3 minutes to say your answer.

After that you have to do two online assessments (which I haven't done yet), it's quite a PITA.

i think shell fixed their online assessment. when i went to the final round at shell recruitment day, we had a group interview. most people said they didn't get more than ~%60 done.

Typical for employers to make you jump through hoops in bad job markets

In Vancouver I once had to do 3 hours of competitive testing against 6 other people for the same job. It included an exam for dyslexia, a comprehension mathematics exam, IQ test and an interrogation style interview. The job? To be a teller at Canadian Tire, part-time only.

Similar story when I tried to apply for a summer student position with Telus answering phones... only it was 50 people in the same room for a single job, and I had to do a 1000 question ethics exam to qualify. I only got to around question ~730 before the time was up, never got called in for the next round of testing.

lol...

are you sure they weren't hiring for someone to crack Enigma again?

Do they do this just to see how much you'll let them fuck with you, or what?

That's what I was thinking. They probably just want to lower the number of applicants by throwing up some resistance. If you make it through, they know you want it bad.

Bring on all the tests they want, brother!

Air Canada was the same when it came to technicians. IQ test, panel interview, mechanical tests (even though I was already holding down a similar job). In the end I beat out some in-house staff apparently ....

The webcam interview questions are pretty much what you'd expect as if you were having a phone interview, you're just putting a face to your voice instead.

I just completed the assessments. Most of it was personality based questions along with some logic/verbal reasoning questions. The assessments were pretty lengthy, it probably took about 1h 30 mins to complete.

I hope I pass after doing all of these things lol

If they call you back, make sure you're allowed to grill the people you're going to work with. Heaven forbid you end up being the smartest person in your group.

Maybe ask why Suncor keeps hiring and laying off employees.

Laying off expensive one, hire back cheap one, then figure out cheap one is no good, repeat cycle?
