What are the random vehicles you've seen with 888 or 8888 plates? Haha the most sought after by Asians who don't wanna pay for a custom one.

Custom plates don't apply

What's the significance of the 8's?

max_boost
05-26-2016, 10:59 PM
8=bat (the number) in Cantonese .... Which sounds like fat=phat = rich so the more 8's the better lol

For Toronto-area resident Daniel D'Aloisio, his "VI6SIX" licence plate is a tribute to his late father. But for a complainant to the province, it evokes an image of Satan.

"VI, meaning life, number '6' and s-i-x. What this means to me is my life shared with my father," the 42-year-old Etobicoke man told the Toronto Star.

"Both of us very big hockey fans, especially with the Montreal Canadiens, where we witnessed the Montreal Canadiens together win six Stanley Cups."

Because VI can be read as the Roman numeral for "six," the licence plate can be interpreted as "666." And according to the New Testament of the Bible, that set of numbers symbolizes the "number of the beast."

The risk of stoking religious offence deems the personalized plate as inappropriate, according to the ministry's guidelines.

Even though I'm pretty white washed, I like my 8's too. My work extension is 168 and I try to get 8's on non personalized plates.

For the new support the troops plates, you can't choose. You have to order it and it just comes in. After I got my first one, I checked with the registry and news articles to estimate how many they were selling to see when I should order the next one to maximize 8's for my second order. I ended up with 8807.

Hah...interesting that you bring this up.

Couple years ago when I went to renew my plates, I had 4 different plates all random and misc letters and numbers. The girl at the front recommended I get all new plates since the plate is offered as part of the renewal and it would make it easier to keep track of. This is what she gave me:

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c103/Stinky_tofu/IMAG1717_zpspp7ddbrs.jpg

I'm clearly asian. I didn't ask for it, but she gave me all 4 new plates in sequential numbers starting with an "8" hahaha.

And the plates are on a Lexus, Mini, Toyota, and a Honda.

That's awesome! For some reason I just assumed plates were randomized from wherever they're made so the chances of getting them sequentially was very unlikely.

Went to register a new vehicle last fall, girl at the counter gave me a big book of all the plates they had in stock. All sequential, couple variations on the first letters.

As I went through, I noticed every plate with two 8's or more was crossed off. She said "asians come in and grab them right away".

Was still cool to look through and pick the one I wanted. Got an easy to remember one for parking :poosie:

United Kingdom private registration marks are big business, owing to the fact they're all issued by the government and any special combo is just coincidence

I lost out on my perfect plate at auction... HAG 611S, started at £499 i bid up to £3000 (excluding VAT and Transfer) and the guy who won it just kept bidding me up, I couldn't afford to go more than that, but now i just wish i'd maxed out a couple of credit cards and got it

Blows me away how superstitious some people can be.

A friend just sold a house for $488,888 for full price, no negotiating to an Asian couple. Funny thing is that is about $30K over property tax assessment and ~19K over what 2 realtors wanted to sell for. He thought he would try the higher price because there are a lot of Asian's in the neighborhood. :dunno:

On the topic of plates, I have always asked for a simple number. My one plate ends in 400 and the other with 1000.
