Getting the roof done and I'm trying to decide between iko chamberlain, gaf timberline hd and timberline ultra hd.

Haven't seen many good reviews of the iko shingles online but this could be because of poor installers.

Is the upcharge for the hd to ultra hd worth it?

I had my house and garage replaced last year with IKO. I would say the long term result on low to mid cost shingles is 90% installer, 10% product. Given that IKO is made in Calgary (in between them having plant fires) their lower cost could likely be having GAF shipped from Texas or whatever US plant is supplying up here. Not sure if GAF has rubber impregnated shingles that are hail resistant that is upping the cost, but my installer told me these premium types save you from hail damage only once.

CertainTeed are the ones I like.

They seem to hold up really well in the wind.

I would try and get Owens Corning Duration shingles over those two manufacturers.
Or would take Timberline over IKO if it was those two choices
Ventilation is key to a healthy roof system.
Ice and Water membrane and synthetic underlay should be used without question.

Your attic needs to breath properly so open soffits for flow and R50 insulation.
Hopefully the roofing company you are going with touched base on these items.

I have roofing clients who avoid Iko shingles all the time because they are garbage - so thats what I would avoid.
