We moved into a new place in Jan of 2016 and everything was fine, but in the past 20 days I've found 4 cockroaches spread out around the house.

Not sure if the warm weather is bringing them out or something but I've never had this happen before.

So my question is, is there anything I can do to get rid of them, aside from calling a pest control company? Has anyone used any products from home depot or anything?

I HATE bugs, so if worst comes to worst does anyone have a pest control company that they can refer me to?

Lived in Canada for the past 20 years and we've never had cockroaches in the house, so not really sure how to go about getting rid of them.

Any tips or help is greatly appreciated

Never heard of roaches in Alberta...I've been on some pretty gnarly construction sites as well, are you sure they are cockroaches?

EDIT: Nevermind, I guess they are common. That's insane, I had no idea.

I would caulk all your cracks/crevices in your home and do a thorough clean-up afterwards, vacuuming every inch of the place.

Pretty sure they are some sort of roach, but cant say for certain.

Definitely had the hard shell looking back, and long antennas

Anyone know where I can get some roach gel locally here in Calgary? Amazon.ca has some but I'd rather go pick it up tonight if possible.

Personally..exterminator. Your traps could catch most of them. But if there is a couple left they will be back again

Had no idea they were here either. Brutal on a new build.

Pressure the builder IMMEDIATELY imo.

Give Poulin's a call and see what they suggest.

New build? and you have only found 4? If it was roaches you would have a sit ton more. Its probably some form of beetle. I would love to see a pic.

I didn't get a picture, but I set some of those sticky insect traps all over the house so if/when it catches I'll snap a picture.

The house is not a new build

Tried calling Poulins but they don't sell the gel.

Where do these fuckers hide? and how do they get in? I didn't see any all winter, does the weather affect them?

When we first moved in we redid the whole kitchen and all the washrooms with new cabinets and such, so if there was an infestation i'm sure we would have saw something earlier?

Make sure there is no debris around the house. if you are seeing it now, then there will be more in the fall. Most of the insects feeds the leaves from the trees on your yard.

Please call the pest companies or do something sooner before its too late. as these pests multiply too fast.

Get rid of them now!

A German cockroach and her young can produce 300,000 more roaches in one year. An American cockroach and her young can produce a comparatively small 800 new roaches per year.

So I setup some of those sticky insect traps two days ago, and its caught nothing yet.

They've been setup for 2 nights now. I put 6 of them around the house (most on the main floor and kitchen area, and one upstairs).

The one i saw had long antennas from what i remember, didn't look the giant water bug pictured above.
