So basically my sin card and credit card are lost and I'm concerned about someone misusing them.

Is there any precautions I can take to ensure they're not used by someone faking to be me?

You can subscribe to Equifax credit monitoring.

For your credit card, immediately cancel and get a new number. Very easy to do and it gets couriered to you immediately. You'll get it within a couple days.

For the SIN, yes you can subscribe to Equifax and Transunion for credit monitoring but it costs like $10/month.

SIN card belong to a safe deposit box, not in your wallet.

You should know your SIN number by heart by now and you only need SIN when you apply for new credit.

But yeah, Equifax monitoring is $15/mth or $150 per year. Will give an alert when something on your file changes within about a week of application. And comes with insurances to help to pay for whatever you need to undo damages if it every occurs.

Yeah, I was 100% for the government putting an end to the SIN cards, I too learned the hard way not to carry it around with me

I know my sin by heart.

It's just the card that's been misplaced. Not even misplaced, a dumbass family member of mine decided to "clean out" my drawer where I put my sin. My mistake as well for keeping the card in company of idiots but it is what it is now.

I went to service canada and they no longer give cards, only sheets of paper with the number written on it.

I guess i have no choice but to join equifax. Fuck. :banghead:
