After a few years of staring at these little bikes on the internet, i finally pulled the trigger on one. Found it up in spruce grove AB and its fully registered and insured for 11 bucks a month.

For those who don't know about these little scooters, they have a 49cc engine with a automatic transmission. It has signals, low/highbeams, push button and kick start, and thats it! Costs me 4 dollars to fill up and gets me roughly 300km to a tank!

I was able to find a great deal on this bike. its a 2003, with only 1100kms on it, and was just recently serviced. The body actually looks really clean with only a couple minors scuffs on it. Minty for a 2003!

There is a huge aftermarket culture behind these little bikes and i look forward to all the big and little mods that i can do to it. On to pics!

https://c5.staticflickr.com/9/8679/28307650372_9cf1ae1ec3_b.jpg

Already did a few little things to the bike to prepare for the mods to come. Have removed the factory plastics. to do so i had to pull the battery box off, and the gas tank under the floorboard. I have trimmed the plastic so that it will still cover the engine underneath the seat. The plastic floorboard will be staying off the car, and i will be painting both the gas tank and the frame to keep the black and red theme flowing nicely.

I have also relocated the front signals down beside the headlights to clean up the look a bit. (brackets have now been shaved off)

While ripping around the street for the first time my neighbour surprised me by pulling out his 2016 honda giorno. Same scooter only with a different body style. #Scootersquad

My little carbon fibre mirror, airbox eliminator kit, R6 tail lights and fuel tank cover arrived from quebec, and got to installing a few of them.
Mirror just screwed into the oem location, looks much cleaner than giant oem bunny ear mirrors.

The fuel tank cover easily bolted on over the tank, and the r6 tail lights were an easy install as well, although i either my wiring is wrong, or i need an in line resistor because the brake light is currently always on. Either way they really clean up the rear end. Will be modifying the rear bracket to fit my plate. Will hopefully have that sorted out tonight along with installing the airbox kit and rejetting the carb.

As for other things i have done, all factory plastics have been removed including the front and rear fenders. I have also relocated my speedo into the battery box to prepare for the new handlebars to come.

https://c8.staticflickr.com/8/7672/28609382855_726f79fa25_h.jpg

I also did some "maintenance" including pumping up the tires to 40psi and the oil was way overfilled. Those changes really helped with the acceleration and top speed which is now a gps confirmed 60kph. Right where its supposed to be. I will soon be unleashing the beast with my upgraded variator and kevlar belt along side the airbox kit and rejet. Apparently with a few mods and some tuning i will be able to get her up to 80.

I have a few bigger orders coming in.

Handlebars
Lowered seat frame
anodized grips
variator kit with rollers
Fatty stretch kit with a lovely new wheel
and a bunch of little things!

Stay tuned! some big changes coming soon! might be able to have this little bike looking awesome for illmotion in a few weeks.

Sweeet:D The aftermarket culture of these is huge alright and some of the builds ive seen are unimaginable for a 50cc scooter. I will get one of these or the grom one day

Always love to see what you do to whatever you get.
You should get a Grom one day as I'm sure you'd make it look killer. So much more potential (already can go 110!) :D

Dude that is awesome. I was really looking into these at the dealership but ended up going with a Grom instead, since they're the same price. The 03 doesn't look much different than the newest ones either

If i were to buy knew it would have been a tougher choice forsure. form what I've read the only difference was in 06 with was a small upgrade to the motor. 0 difference in looks!

Some go faster bits came in yesterday!

Fresh spark plug
NCY Unlimited CDI
Molossi Variator with 7 gram rollers
Malossi 4.9 Gram rollers
Poling Belt
AND PEGS!!! Hurray Leg room!

https://c2.staticflickr.com/9/8449/28127948993_365222b660_c.jpg

Heres a look under the CVT cover. Variator on the left, Clutch on the right.
https://c3.staticflickr.com/9/8706/28125657434_f315046e7d_c.jpg

New variator on and chose the 4.9 gram weights to begin with. Lighter weights raise Rpm(better for acceleration but lower top speed), Heavier Weights Lower rpm (higher top speed but slower acceleration)

Will be a lot of playing around with weight combos on the new variator to optimize it for both top speed and acceleration.
https://c5.staticflickr.com/9/8350/28711469076_9987b5776a_c.jpg

After going for a test ride on the 4.9 weights i notice acceleration was great, but i lost 10km/hour from the stock variator. This means the weights were too light.

Swapped over to the 7 gram weights and top speed was back up to 60. Same as stock, but i noticed low and mid range acceleration was much better. So thats good signs. Im going to order some heavier weights and see how that does.

After playing around with the weights, it got to installing my CDI. This removes the rev limiter from your ruckus and plays with the torque curve a little bit. I noticed a bit better acceleration again, but more tuning is needed for me to hit my rev limiter(need to re jet down to a smaller main jet).

The cdi is the little red box under the zip tie. it basically piggy backs on to your ecu.
https://c7.staticflickr.com/9/8180/28638111502_48bd83dc57_c.jpg

Last and probably my favourite mod so far is the PEGS! finally i dont hit my knees on the handle bars and gives me a little bit of a sportier riding position.

https://c5.staticflickr.com/9/8710/28125664564_b9f926de45_c.jpg

I have another package arriving today so yay for more mods! and one big package hopefully coming at the end of the week, or early next.
https://c7.staticflickr.com/9/8555/28638109502_b63f971742_c.jpg

Woohoo! more parts! My orders from Password JDM and TheRuckShop came yesterday.

In the password jdm box:
Lowered seat frame powder coated black
Lower frame brace with pegs powder coated black
Lowered handlebar stem with bar.
Anodized red ignition key cover.

In TheRuckShop box came:
Roller Weight Tuning set 4 Gram -14 Gram
Jet Kit including 38 slow jet, 80,82,85 main jets
Trail tech Vapor digital tachometer/Speedometer
Michelin Bopper front tire 120/90/10
the Ruck shop stem face with vapor tach/speedometer mount.

Last night installed my lowered seat frame, lower frame brace and lowered handlebars. The bike is looking pretty sweet now! Really happy with the lowered seat frame and handlebars. its much more comfortable down lower and i have much more leg room with my feet on either sets of pegs .

Before:
https://c7.staticflickr.com/9/8555/28638109502_b63f971742_c.jpg

After:
https://c3.staticflickr.com/9/8891/28752031346_cf23582d00_c.jpg

Im not too sure what to think of the lower frame brace... It looks kinda cool but it raises the floor so high that I'm unable to put my feet in there anymore. Although the pegs that are attached are great.
https://c1.staticflickr.com/8/7662/28678461552_39953ac9be_c.jpg

As for the handle bars they are great, but i think i may order a different bar. the straight bars aren't the greatest to ride with, so i may look for an angled bar for more comfortable riding. As you can see i also installed the tach/speedo mount stem face. I cant wait to install the vapour tach. Will be much easier to tune the bike knowing exactly where to get the most power in the rev range.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/8/7571/28752024056_75ec1cd938_c.jpg

Finally i re-jetted the carb down to a 80 main jet and removed the shim in the needle. I found out for much higher altitudes it better to have the slightly smaller main jet (80 instead of the 85 i had.. thank you Ca_Silva!) and removing the shim in the needle (makes it boggy in higher altitudes with the shim).

I also played around with some more rollers in the variator.
I tried out 11 gram weights just to see what would happen : slower acceleration/high top speed Kept pulling past 60kph
lowered it down to 8.5 gram rights and it felt better. Good acceleration and a high top speed. I am regularly hitting 63kph on flats, 65+ when tucking and over 75 bombing down a hill. Im getting close to where i want it. I think with exhaust and more toying with roller weights i will be able to hit 70kph on flats. Thats the goal.

Let the fun continue!

My Mojo Customs Stretch kit has arrived! Everything tightly packed into the box.

https://c5.staticflickr.com/9/8762/28862090676_3c3ce57271_c.jpg

Motor mount
Little Baby Coilover
stretch arm/bracket
extended fuel line
Longer Brake/Throttle Cables.
Some red Grips
and a kickstand.
https://c4.staticflickr.com/9/8732/28277981083_1742b63d3f_c.jpg

Got right to it!
Had to free up a bunch of lines and brakes in order to get the engine moved back and stretch arm bracket bolted up to the frame.
https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8742/28275538384_4989344beb_c.jpg

Old Motor Mount Removed
https://c5.staticflickr.com/9/8783/28275540044_5dd9996fb4_c.jpg

New shock vs old shock
https://c4.staticflickr.com/9/8633/28893002555_3139a5a8bc_c.jpg

The mojo Kit comes with a choice of three lengths of stretch's. guess which one i picked?
https://c5.staticflickr.com/9/8569/28862100236_214e97b127_c.jpg

Engine mount/Stretch bar on!
https://c3.staticflickr.com/9/8575/28275547874_cc052f0a8a_c.jpg

Was super close to finishing last night. Just a few more things left to reassemble. The stock throttle and rear brake cable were just barely too short to work. Needed to be about 2-3 inches longer. New extended throttle cable is on, and will be putting the longer rear brake cable on tonight and doing finishing touches! Cant wait!

Oh and the kit also came with this

would one of these require an OOP if purchased elsewhere? since they're 49cc my son could ride it with his learners, his 14th birthday is at the end of the month.

Man im bad at updating these things...

Had an awesome summer with this bike.

Finished up the rear end

https://c7.staticflickr.com/9/8837/28882506126_8eb27a7df5_c.jpg

And did a DIY whitewall up front to match the rear.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8171/28992921416_b82cf4e19c_c.jpg

Got lots of looks at illmotion
https://c4.staticflickr.com/9/8016/28949626931_34a63c1af3_c.jpg

but now its getting too cold to ride and i am parking it until spring :( I've been thinking i might sell this to fund some fun parts for my audi, but still haven't decided. If you're interested, shoot me a pm and we could chat.

Plans for if i keep it? Keep going hard on the modding, get working on the front end. New fork/shocks, brake disc converison, wheel... etc... and have the whole bike powder coated some stupid bright colour.

It's funny haha... I've been riding all summer, and when I first started riding I never expected to get "the wave" because I'm riding some rediculus scooter thing.

But I get the wave all the time from all sorts of riders. It's something I need to get used to doing when I see other riders lol.

Its a show of respect for a cool build id think. I think for most whether you ride cruiser, sport bike or crotch rocket you can always appreciate a custom build

Bumping this back up form the dead.

I decided to keep the bike and do a tear down. I just really enjoy this little thing.

Brought it out before tearing it apart just to make sure it started and everything. The battery was dead so it needed a boost, but after that it fired right up no problem. also picked up an exhaust so i had to throw it on.

for those of you who saw me ripping around last year. it was straight piped. way too loud and hurt everyones ears. the new exhaust sounds much better and quiets it down. Should be able to squeeze a few extra mph as well after a re jet.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/275/31961856620_dfbc2364ce_h.jpg

So let the teardown begin! I finally got around to disassembling the bike for the new color in january. I felt pretty overwhelmed at first but, as you keep pulling bits off, its very straight forward.

More parts arrived from the ruckshop! exterior bolt dress up kit, matching whitewall tire for the front, Lowered front forks with the option for a disk brake conversion down the road. Also got myself a recaro seat!

https://c1.staticflickr.com/4/3906/33092068330_4155950f91_b.jpg

The parts below will also be done powder coating today!

Recaro seat looks pretty sick too.

Awesome man, would love to meet up and ride sometime. It took me all winter to decide on a colour.

I thought about a gy6 swap, but I've read that reliability goes out the window, and i would need to ditch half my stretch parts to go that route. So well see maybe next year.

Oh yeah, nothing on a GET build will fit a GY6 build. Pretty much a build from the frame up. Which also make things much more expensive. I went back and forth on the GET vs GY6, but at the end of the day it came to where I live. to get out of my neighborhood I have a choice between a 70km/h road or 80km/h road, so I had to go the GY6 route.

good news is I have a bunch of Stock GET parts if anything craps out on you.

oh forsure. Dont wanna start from scratch again lol. Already have way too much money into the bike.

I Should be able to squeeze 70-75k out of the GET once its all said and done. I hope...

But im completely fine with the 65 its hitting right now.

Update on the Ruckus!

Calgary Powder coating did a fantastic job with the bike. Finnish is incredibly smooth. Also went to Calgary auto body supplies for a perfect match of the powder coat and painted the rest of the plastics myself.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2937/33981477965_7c0341f285_b.jpg

Began assembling right away.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2922/33981477645_5c39b0ba22_b.jpg

Re-Assembly went really well, New shortie front forks are on, new handlebars, grips, bar end mirror, rear seat, Billet Coolant tank, and a few other goodies have been installed. I also stepped the 12.5 inch stretch down to a 8 inch stretch. I feel it looks much better shorter like this.

The colour flows so well with the white wall tires. I couldnt be happier with the result.

Im currently getting up to about 65km/h. But i will have to play with the carb to gain the maximum power working with the new exhaust, as well as play with the CVT tuning some more to put the power to the wheel. Should be able to squeeze 5 more km/h with he new exhaust on there. Cant wait to be out riding!

Hope everyone Enjoyed seeing it at driven. I didnt take home any award. There were alot of crazy fabbed up bikes there, and the ruckus was placed in that category.

here a sweet little roller from warren @ euro cars and coffee a few weeks ago.

Im kinda caught between a rock and a hard place......

Between the previous owner messing up the threads on the crank, and me finishing it off the other day while doing some cvt tuning. .... I' need a new crank. I dont think ill be able to tap the threads. its in a super awkward place and the metal is hardened. New crank, means ripping apart the motor which I'm not all that interested in doing.

I have the opportunity to buy a replacement motor in the city for few hundred bucks which isn't too bad. but I've been struggling to get this scoot past 65 kph and i need to get it to 80 in order for it to be practical to ride.

I think an engine swap may be coming sooner than later.

Why must people who ride scooters be oblivious to road rules? Just because its a scooter doesn't mean you would be road meat if you wiped out hard or were hit by a car.

Riding around without proper gear? I see so many scooter people doing this. Flipflops, t-shirts, beanies, etc.

You aren't wearing proper footwear or even gloves in your picture above.

Huh.... i didnt realize recommended riding equipment are "Road rules" :poosie:

Its my choice if i want to wear protective gear (apart form a bucket) or not. The gloves i purchased are much too large for the handle bars so i need to get smaller ones.

Its up to me if i want to risk not wearing protective gear. And riding around at 65kph and under, i feel ok without wearing full gear and am willing to take that risk. I am comfortable with riding in just a hoodie, jeans and sneakers.

Joining in on the derailment, I see dudes in gym shorts and flip flops on sport bike regularly, and guys in t-shirts on harleys at least daily.

I don't think a lack of protective gear is a scooter thing at all.

I was just gonna say.... At least I'm in a hoodie and jeans. I see guys on larger/much faster bikes in t shirts and shorts very often.

I've seen a few guys in bathing sits as well as women on he back in bikinis on those sport bikes. I figure they haven't hit a rock yet. Only time will tell .
Riding in the rain or even a hail storm they will wish they wore a t shirt or something.

back on topic lol...

Update on the ruckus.

Been having a hell of a time trying to get this thing past 65kph. Really need to get it above that for it to be practical to ride. I can barely get anywhere in the city due to the fast roads around my community.

Im sure i said somewhere in this thread i wasn't going to swap it but that has changed....New motor will be here on monday. Im going to be doing a swap series on my youtube channel, so if you guys are interested in seeing how the swap goes. Hit that subscribe button and follow along. Im going to be swapping this in and getting it running as soon as possible.

I've had a couple downs, luckily both at low speed, and I still got noteworthy road rash (even at 40kph since I was in shorts and a tee). Enough that I never went out without gear on after that. Also something to remember - jeans don't protect you. At all. They shred in about the first 15' of sliding.

Sorry for the derail op haha.

Haha the 150cc gy6 is a very common swap for these bikes. Should get me right up to 80kph-90kph without any modifications to the motor. but that being said..... this engine allows me the option to big boring up to 232CC at a very low cost if i ever decided to do that in the future.

Preview of the parts going on! almost everything is here ready to go. just need a harness and a few other small tidbits. The yoshi exhaust is gorgeous!

I dont have it yet but i will be getting it once the ruckus is swapped. I actually plan on taking the test on the ruckus once its done. People say that you can get away without a license and having it swapped as the 150 and the 49cc look extremely similar in size, but thats not really something i want to risk. Plus I'm going to want to get a big bike eventually anyways.

I don't think you could take the test on the Ruckus as its deemed a "scooter by law and I'm not sure if you could change that. If you want your Class 6 go take the test and sign up to rent a bike.

I dont see why not. You need a class 6 to ride other scooters that have larger than a 50cc engine. Shouldn't be a problem.

Ruckus is coming together. Build series is up on my youtube channel. More updates to come! Just waiting on my harness so it should be here today or tomorrow!

Does your registration class the Ruckus as a motorcycle? Or Scooter/Moped? Just because you increase the CC of the bike does not make it a motorcycle or valid vehicle for road tests.

By the transportation law you are classified as a LSM (limited speed motorcycle) http://www.transportation.alberta.ca/Content/docType41/Production/Motorcycle_Inspection_Manual_Version_2Point0_July2011.pdf .. Page 11/12

Firebane is correct. I looked into it when I swapped out to a GY6. Its classified as a moped and a non-highway vehicle. Meaning if your road test took you to deerfoot, you would be SOL.

Sidenote, last week I was pulled over almost every day. Only one officer asked what cc the engine was. Most of them pulled me over because they weren't sure what it was and wanted more information. (The official reason was mostly because of the loud exhaust)

I think the CC must apply to riders between the age of 14-16 then with a learners permit? I know there was some limitation on 50cc engines. I will look it up and post when I have a chance.....

Sorry to derail thread, on a side note I can wait to hear this thing. When can we expect a video? :)

I just got notification a few minutes ago that my harness and last remaining parts have been delivered. so I'm hoping to have everything wired up tonight and get a startup. Really want to get this thing riding. Stay tuned for a youtube upload soon! hit that subscribe button! Its going to be awesome.

Some pics of the new setup. Pumped to be riding again! this thing is insanely fast compared to the 50cc. Acelleration and off the line, its a huge difference. The top speed currently is 88kph. Extremely happy :)

Having a Remote Controlled Wheelchair and having Ruckus Von Rowdy the Manikin ride in it on Fremont St. in Las Vegas NV., then security says you guys gotta go and we say no we are not going to leave and then we Heckle them! Security says you are Causing A Ruckus! We say- No No! We Just Advertise for them!A ruckus is the uproar you cause when you noisily protest the new cafeteria menu or a bad call against your favorite team. Cats fighting outside your window in the middle of the night could also cause a ruckus.

LOL what In all the fucks?!?! on topic this thing is sweet. I wanna ride it haha
