The show is good but kind of confusing. I swear it starts off as like a superhero-type and then switches into becoming more grounded in reality.

The Get Down is a musical drama television series set in the South Bronx in the late 1970s - Wiki

In addition to that, it's basically the roots of hip-hop in all aspects (DJ-ing/Turntable-ism, MC-ing, BBoy-ing, and Graffiti art).

Finished the series. Starts off a bit slow, but it picks up nicely. Great mix of disco, hip hop, H&B and jazz. Produced by Nas, features Nas' voice/lyrics for Zeke, great casting and plot development. I especially like the Wu-Tang-esque scenes with Shaolin Fantastic/Grandmaster Flash.

Just started it last night, liking it so far!

I found it can be a bit random at times and was commenting to my girlfriend that it had almost a moulin rouge feel to it. Just googled it and it looks like it is directed by the same guy.

At least there is the 4 part hbo documentary "hip hop evolution" to tide over for a little bit. The first couple episodes are kind of neat after watching the get down

How is that possible? That's like 2-3 times more than GoT costs per episode and I'm sure GoT is paying a lot more for its actors at this point.

I think it's $120 million for the entire season. The article I read stated $10 million per episode.

If you watch both The Get Down and Hip-Hop Evolution together, they compliment each other really well.

The Get Down kinda reminds me of Wild Style with an actual plot.

great show, not even sure if I want to keep going (spoilers) the mid-season ending everyone is so happy and is getting what they want... but you know things are not going to work out well for them
