For the course design, Cam and I were thinking the same thing at the last meeting! :)

Often in the past I have brought back course designs (or elements thereof) from the Packwood NT or the SCCA Nats etc.) from the 'States so we get a little taste of what is happening down there.

This time the West Course at Nationals was quite different and interesting in some ways. Some people did not like it. I'm sure the winners were ok with it. :)

Anyway, there was a lot of line choice and big, big open sweepers essentially so I'll be doing a take on those types of elements for the course design this coming weekend at YYC. Hmmm....maybe I can use some of the corner names too!? :)

How about a Beyond corner for all us beyonders attending? :)

What would you like to call it? Just "Beyond the corner" maybe? That may not have good connotations tho'! ;)

reijo

Or maybe "Above and Beyond!"?

how about Beyond the Cones? Name the most difficult corner after that.

Whats the process for spectators? I would have wanted to come drive but I can barely drive on the street let alone any kind of race with my foot fucked up.

Would be nice to come out and see things

There should be someone with a waiver at the gate. Most racers will take you for a ride as well, so either bring a helmet or find one of the loaners that the club has and ask away.

We will review the situation probably on Friday night or so and see if we have any drops etc. and decide then whether to let more in.

You will get a notice if you get in from MSReg.com from me.

Here's some photos I took when I had a moment or two ... none from the 2nd heat when I was running etc. so they are not comprehensive per se:

Thanks again Reijo for such a great event! Great track design too, that Beyond the Cones corner was pretty awesome.

I think my rear alignment went off from hitting that jump in the middle of the track. Car won't turn left without drift mode oversteering anymore, even on the street.

You're welcome!

Ah, camber adjusting bolt probably worked loose ... Miatas are famous for that in autox conditions .... and even the occasional S2k.

Used to run a friend's CSP Miata years ago and he painted the camber bolt area and marked (with a marker) where the camber adjustment should be and we used to check the alignment after EVERY run! However we were running 275-35-15's on it ... 2005 lbs wt and about 1.5-1.6 sustained G's in corners so there was a lot of extra pressure on the connections than a stock Miata which corners around 0.85 G's ...

BTW, I changed the sharing options on the shutterfly photos ... everyone can see them now. It keeps going to default settings even when I request open options .... glitches...

Ditto on a big thankyou Reijo for a most excellent day sir :) Track layout was just beautiful. Happy to see Auto X is back up and running in Calgary. Had a blast shaking the cob webs off the SRT :D Day full of nice cars, great people, and great weather, what more could you ask for :burnout:

That sucks. That "jump" Wasn't as bad as the bumps/postholes that encounter on my drive home -- was there somthing especially bad there for your car?

Not sure, but something definitely happened to the car between the AM and PM runs, I'm just speculating it was the bump. I mean it could be the tires, but tread and wear looked OK when I was inspecting it. Or it could be from my 3rd run where I had reijo as a passenger. Made me so nervous and I fucked up my run and just decided to have a bit of fun throwing the car around for the rest of the run and maybe fucked up the tires.

I suspected something was off when I couldn't take turn 2 (the first left kink before Beyond the Cones) flat anymore in the afternoon and had to brake for that to not slide the car at all. The car just wants to spin every time I turned left. Compared to the morning (my first run ended up being my fastest time) I had more grip turning right, and 1/2 the grip turning left because of excessive oversteer in the afternoon. My G meter reported the same thing.

When I left the event, I turned left at 1/2 throttle and the car oversteered like crazy out of the lot. That never happens, the RC-F doesn't have that much power at low rpms lol. Regardless, not a huge deal, I'm getting it checked out at the alignment shop to see what happened later in the week.

LOL -- you have to drive my AP1 some time -- that will let you know what "no torque" really means :)

I've spent a lot of time in the AP1 so ya I do know what's up, especially at our elevation. :)

No camber adjustments on my car (silly). It was toe, right side was toe'd out by nearly 0.3 degrees. That change in alignment was enough for 1-2s of laptime.

All fixed now, ready for event 4!
