Vehicle Details
Year : 1990
Make and Model : Toyota Celica GT-S
Exterior Color : Blue
Interior Color : Very Blue
Auto or Manual? : Manual, 5-speed
Odometer Reading : 244,000 km
Location of Vehicle : NW Calgary
Description :
I bought this Celica to go on the Trans Mountain to Tide Water road rally.
It is a 5-speed manual hatchback. It does not have a sunroof, so there is extra room for taller drivers or people wearing helmets.
This is a phenomenal driver. It's so smooth and quiet on the highway, it has lots of low-end torque for stoplight pulls, it takes corners with aplomb and it has lots of features (such as power lumbar and bolsters for the driver's side). It is straight up the nicest car that I have ever worked on. We will both miss this car a lot.
The way I see this car is as a good first vehicle for a young driver, or for anyone who wants to have a sporty grand tourer (long highway miles, for instance) with soon-to-be-classic looks. Unlike a lot of its competition it has a ridiculous amount of storage room, easily capable of holding a full set of tires.
Recent Maintenance/Repair
New timing belt, water pump, pulleys/idlers
New brake pads and rotors on all four corners along with new flexible brake lines
New CV axles on both sides
New shocks on all four corners (KYB GR2), shock boots and bumpstops also replaced. Front shock housings POR15'd for durability.
New spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor rotor
New sway bar endlinks
New hatch struts and repaired interior parcel shelf
New battery
New alternator
New windshield
New accessory belts as well
New LED fog lights/DRLs
Replaced tail lights
New shift boot and shift knob
Aligned to factory specs
Replaced steering wheel and misc. interior trim from hand lotion damage
New fuel filter
Replaced oil pressure switch
Recent oil change with Rotella T6 and high-quality filter
Windshield wiper arms repainted (with new wiper blades, of course.)
Interior and exterior detailed
Rust spots touched up with Corroseal
New seat belts & retractors
The Good
All that maintenance
Gets great mileage on regular 89 octane
The super-rare blue interior is in amazing shape
Recent insurance inspection included
Stable on the highway and easy to drive for long distances: I would say 00s German-esque
No serious rust, entire body is super clean with only a few rock chips and minor parking lot dents/scrapes
Newish all season tires
It was reliable for a 2900 km road rally in BC in July, with the exception of a fuel filter we had to change.
Maintenance/running cost parts are cheap on RockAuto due to heavy Camry interchange
AC has been converted to R134A (a very expensive job), but does not work (see below)
The Bad
The AC, while converted to R134A, has no pressure. It probably needs new o-rings for the compressor and a new dryer and a recharge at the very least, but did not investigate further.
The car overheats in extremely hot weather. It may be due to the age of the radiator, but it may also be the common 5SFE head gasket issue. Turning the heat up until the temperature gauge drops again keeps it in check.
A centre cap is missing.
One of the speakers is blown and rattles when it's bassy.
Asking Price : $3000
