Hot tub covers

My cover got hail damaged and needs to be replaced. Any vendor suggestions?

Anyone using a solar bubble wrap type blanket or closed cell foam floating blanked on top of water?

How do like it or not?

I wish I could remember the brand we had, but get one with assisted lift. They are sooooo much better, especially when it's freezing cold and you just went to get back in the house :rofl: Then protect it with a product like 303 to resist the sun and the chemicals a bit better.

Last one was just a year ago. Paid $420, all-in, to my door.
That was the 6" extreme winter, tapered cover with the Upgrade Combo Vapour Proof Barrier Seal & Energy shield

My current cover is from these guys, and I'm not that impressed. I got the super-duper every option unit, and the $100 reflective heat shield coating was flaking off at about 1 year old. I made the mistake of mentioning to him the hail damage, so my warranty void. But hail would not have any effect on the underside coating.......

Need to try new lid source.

My factory cover took on so much water it was stupid heavy.
I could have taken it apart and tried to dry it out, but gave it away, and got a new one from hottubcoverscanada.ca it's great. Great company to deal with.

When did you get the new one?
AFAIK, all covers eventually get too heavy from water saturation. Our factory cover lasted 6 years before we had to replace it. Must've weighed about 500 lbs. Wife couldn't even lift the one side.
The first one from The Cover Guy lasted almost 5 years before it got to the same point. Current cover is a year old now.

Floating a bubble wrap type of blanket on the water will certainly decrease water loss through evaporation and it also reduces heat loss as well - that's been our experience in the 20 or so years that we've owned our tub.

We got the new one July 2014, still light as a feather. Took 3 people to schlep the old one out to the truck. They claim to have better sealing than the factory ones, though definitely not as strong.

There seems to be different grades if the bubble wrap, 12mil to 15mil, and with fouled side or not.

Which type you use, and how often needs to be replaced?

Read it greatly extends life of hard cover. You find this also?

Don't remember but we've had ours for well over a decade and it still looks good. As far as the hard cover stuff, ours isn't a foam type. Solid shell with insulation inside of it - I can actually stand on it with no worries.

most hot tub places dont sell the bubble wrap. Id assume if there was a big benefit they would push the product or carry it.

Conspiracy theory me thinks they don't sell it cuz expensive lids would last longer, hurting revenue.

Seems everyone using the bubble wrap thinks there is benefit.
