Is it that good of a deal if the Samsung website has it at $1099USD?

It's an average TV, entry level, not overly good or bad at anything. It's a 60Hz (not great for action) VA panel (average viewing angles & color), average anti-reflection tech, totally fine for general usage. Not something I would put in a dedicated theater room.

This review is pretty thorough if you want another opinion (Exact same TV as your link but without a smart remote):

65" 4K TV from a major brand that is a decent price, other that it's a pretty standard entry level TV.

TVs are much more expensive in canada for some reason.

This 65" TV launched at $2000+ in Canada. $1489 is a very good price and Costco is the only place that has this price right now. Everyone else is $1900.

I'm guessing $1489 is suppose to be the black friday price at Bestbuy, etc. but Costco leaked it early

There isn't a better 4k tv for the price from a big brand. Even Vizio D series which is worse than this is $1550 I think

There is a big thread at redflagdeals also

VA panels are actually preferred for tvs. Superior colors and blacks compared to IPS. You do compromise on viewing angles though

That's not quite true. IPS panels have much better color accuracy, viewing angles, and better grey uniformity. Where they don't do as good is black levels/contrast and response time (though response time has been improved a lot). IPS is generally better for daytime viewing (or with the lights on) as well. To say that one is always preferred over the their is certainly not true. VA panels are quite bad for off-axis viewing which makes them not a great choice for a lot of environments, and they start to lose their blacks advantage when you drift away from head-on viewing.

Especially for a living room TV, I would much rather have an IPS panel for the wider viewing angles and daytime viewing. If going in a dedicated theater, you need to decide if you'd rather have better blacks (VA) or better color accuracy and viewing angles (IPS).
