Just out of curiosity, how long have/did you collect EI for?

Not eligible as a contractor. Paid in for 15 years, never been able to collect a cent.

Actually you may be eligible but the choice is yours still.

I had a few weeks of down time here and there, and I think my claim was still active, so I could have claimed it, but it was too much hassle for too little money.

Even if I qualify for it, I won't ever go on it again. I would rather take some courses or travel, and EI doesn't allow for either of those.

I collected ei while attending a 4 month program at sait, you just have to know where to look :dunno:

Never had to do EI, I've always got a fall back job or plan. And so far even if I lose my current O&G job I have other employment waiting for me to work for them for the same pay +overtime. So can't really complain

EDIT: I've been super lucky, I don't want to flaunt in honest. But my dice rolls seems to work out for the best.

I made it nearly twenty years of work before I needed to start an EI claim. I have been on it around nine months so far, and with the extra 25 weeks, I should make just a hair over a full year.

It's not great, until it's all you've got, then it's a lifesaver.

Lots of Albertans have never had to use it before, but it gives us some helpful perspective on the program.

Never had to yet. Hoping not to change that. Keep your chin up, boys. You can do this.

 I still have to think twice when I see "EI". Being "old school", I still think of it as "UI". Either way, I've never been able to take advantage of it! Always wanted to! Man, to get paid for sitting at home?!! Awesome!!
When I have no work....there's NO money coming into the household!

I never used it until I started in the oilfield 3.5 years ago. it's good to have a couple grand coming in between jobs.

I used it while in school the last few years and I'll use it again when I go for my journeyman in March.
