Who can recommend a transmission shop for my 99.5 sierra 5.3 z71? It seems to have lost 2nd, 4th and reverse... I was driving and heard a clunk, and this is what happened afterwards.

Victor at http://beyondtransmissions.com/ was recommended to me and did a good job on my Dodge

beyond transmissions tried to get me to rebuild my transmission when all I needed was the torque converter to replaced. this will likely be the same with all transmission shops in calgary because they rely on the fact that the general population doesn't understand them.

they too were recommended to me as being open and honest. the fact that they couldn't tell if the problem was with my torque converter clutch or the problem was the valvebody was a bit of a piss off for me, considering they have access to tools and testing equipment that i did not. the truck was already there and I chose to have both the valvebody shift kit and torque converter done....which ended up costing me about the same as reman unit from the dealer without labour to swap the units.

in hindsight i should have just went with a reman and did the work myself. oh well

edit, this was on my 06 1500hd. a reman from the dealer with a 3 year warranty will likely be a couple hundred more than a rebuild that carries a 90day-1 year warranty.

Check your ignition switch, I remember them failing and causing limp mode in transmissions in older GMs when I worked for the dealer.

Sound's like a broken sunshell, needs a rebuild. I've used Quality Transmissions in the past, decent price and they know GM trannys well.
