Driving to work on MacLeod Trail this morning I saw a nice black M3. Looked new and had a really aggressive/wide rear wheel arch. I don't think it was aftermarket but I don't know for sure. I think I saw a similar white one all done up at the Illmotion show. I admit I haven't followed the M3 generations since the mid 2000's and have no clue what can be bought stock for them. I went online and can't find a decent picture that shows a similar car. Most of the behind shots don't show any fender flares at all. The car had a bump in the hood if that helps. I am assuming it's an F90 and the back said M3 - it was a sedan.

Anyone care to enlighten me? Is there a factory widebody option? The cars I see online don't look as flared but maybe it's just the difference between pictures and real life. There were no obvious stuck on flares on this car. They looked factory which has got me curious.

F90 is a 5 series... F80 is what you want... did it look more flared than this?

Hard to tell. I know the back looked really wide, and I can see in that picture how the rear wheel is flared. I've seen other pictures of them from the side and back and the wheel well looks more flat. Could be like that but just looks bigger at certain angles I guess

ercchry
11-22-2016, 11:17 AM
Yeah, probably the way the light grabs it in photos making the biggest difference

killramos
11-22-2016, 11:34 AM
One thing to note is that between the M3 and M4 the M3's arches are far more pronounced than the M4's.

Maybe that's why it stood out to you as the M4 is imo quite a bit more common of the new generation.

ercchry
11-22-2016, 02:45 PM
So I was just driving behind an m4... I think what it is could be the wheels... the stock ones are pretty sunk and it give the car a pretty normal behind... but like the picture I post with them spaced out it looks much wider

redline
11-22-2016, 05:22 PM
both the F80 M3 and F82 M4 have big sexy hips... the M3 achieves it from the fender flares and the whole rear of the M4 + fender flares make it differnet from the non M counter parts

And a i agree aftermarket rims with wider tires make a huge differnece to accent the sexy hips

danno

My short term goal is to get a 2015+ m3, just a gorgeous car. Has the right angles and wide body look to it, not as wide as the b7 rs4 but still good.

Was the M3 lowered or factory height? Because if the fenders flared, I'm thinking the owner put a LB kit on it

soloracer
11-23-2016, 02:55 PM
Wasn't crazy like the LB kit. I'm thinking it was stock but lowered with big wheels. Like this car:

That's the basic graphite; you should scope out some of "Grigio" custom ordered M's.

I know this for my next order, rookie mistake...Although the Austin Yellow is growing on me

Lo Pro, your car looks deadly, the CF additions are amazing.

Looked up the Grigio, nice, but still fan of the basic graphite

They do stock!!!

With the right system they sound pretty damn good and I'm coming from 2 ISF's and an RCF and the glorious V8 whail...

I've got a custom built ARK catback that has gone through 3 renditions to get rid of the garbled lawnmower sound. The cold start was embarrassing when I first bought the car.

Thanks for the compliments gents!

Edit: Found a couple videos right after the last modifications to the system. Sounds better as it heats up but definitely not the "rocks in a garburator" sound any more

Yup, just mounted my Hakka 8 studded last week which are completely overkill and quite possibly the most annoying tires in the world... until the snow hits

The colour is what pretty much what sold me on it. Definitely a rare one and not something you see often.

And this is like the last time for a long time for me to be switching vehicles. The wife doesn't care typically but even she is losing her patience seeing this happen so often lol. Plus I myself have started to feel guilty for doing this so frequently even though the way I structure the deals I don't quite lose that much.

Plus the car is and has everything I could need so I shouldn't want to feel like switching for at least a few years anyway.

95% of M3's come with rear folding seats & cold weather pack... unless you get a southern US car.

Even then I think folding seats were a 500 option. It's still doable after the fact to install folding seats in the rear (the holes and mounting are still there) but you'll have to buy the cables, pull handle and a new seat back in order to facilitate it.

Yea man definitely a few years with this one. As for mods, not sure if I want to do too much to it. Don't want to go overboard maybe just some carbon fibre bits here and there. Already has a full carbon fibre interior including the shift knob. Stock everything else except for a tune.

Alright, so why I chose the RC-F over the M3. 2 reasons.

First, the M3 was too damn fast. There I said it. High speed corners, it was very difficult to hit the limits. You are literally doing absolutely insane speeds and there's room for more. The car really handles like it's on rails in the fast stuff. It felt like a waste of a car for the streets. On the track, no brainer, this thing would kick it's competition's ass if it wasn't a bit underpowered in comparison.

Second, the noise. It's not that I6's sound bad, but somehow BMW has made it sound terrible out of the box. I really hope you get a solid exhaust for it. The OEM exhaust, just why? haha.

So yea, redline is right, I did choose the shittier car haha. It did take a bit of setup work, but it's damn fun at slower speeds. Anyways, enjoy the car, mod it, make it yours, and try to keep it longer than 6 months!

haha I was curious what you were going to give for reasoning.

After owning both cars (traded my '15 RCF in on this M3) they are very different and both have +/-

I loved my RCF; but the M3, especially at this altitude is an absolute monster compared to the NA V8

On another note I just rented a full track pack ATS-V for 4 days in San Diego and I don't care what ANYONE says but the M3 is a better car... the Caddy's suspension, and those Recaro seats were unreal however

I used to hate how early the fuel light comes on, until I got the RC-F. That light comes on with maybe 25km of range left. I can't even make it home from the deep south if that light turns on when I get on Stoney Trail unless I drive 90 lol.

Weird. The Merc turns into a graphic at <40kms, so really I got some juice left.

When I had the R, it gave zero.

As in, zero fucks given if you putter along because you didn't read the gauge, ya fack.

Haha

I was wondering how long it'll take before the add gets here. I am actually thinking about getting rid of the car all together and not changing it for something else. And that too just testing the waters. Do like it quite a bit still and considering the economy and price point I will most likely end up keeping it. Next upgrade will not be for a few years at the very least.
