Playing shutter speeds. Check out the depth of field.

http://www.benyl.com/Beyond/Zoo_2004/statueslow.jpg

Faster shutter speed, larger aperture, shallow depth of field.

http://www.benyl.com/Beyond/Zoo_2004/statuefast.jpg

Cool effect here with a slow shutter speed.

Love the Slow Shutter on the waterfall, did you try that with the fountain above?
Nice work!

benyl
03-20-2004, 07:33 PM
I was trying that... but it was handheld, so I couldn't let the shutter speed get too low. The waterfall was with the tripod. I tried to get the same small waterfall that you got, but for some reason it was out of focus... It was on a tripod and everything...

Here's one of my HD video clips, first one that looks fairly good. Remember, you need Windows Media 9, a damn fast computer, and Windows 2000 or XP to view the video.

http://www.virgeweb.com/rage2/zoohd/zoo02-720p-24fps.zip

Still working on getting the proper color and contrast balance in the shots. Wish I had that ND filter to see how much of a difference it makes... after the sun came out, a lot of the vids weren't very usable because of washed out colors in the sunlit areas.

It's so much harder to get good strong vibrant colors out of video :(.

What camera did you use for that HD shot? I have a sony DCX2100 (so many letters + numbers that I forget) and my shots don't come out as well... I think. I'll see what I get when I import them to my computer.

You mean the Sony DCRVX2100 3ccd MiniDV Cam?

I'm using the JVC GR-HD1 HDTV camcorder.

http://forums.beyond.ca/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36257

Your Sony camcorder is still limited by the MiniDV format. 480 lines of resolution interlaced. The HD1 can do 720x480x60fps progressive scan, as well as 1280x720x30fps progressive scan, thus the huge difference in quality.

The images I captured are actually worse than it looks, they've gone through 30fps to 24fps processing to give it that film look (well attempted anyways).

Here's a comparison of 24fps (a bit blurrier, especially motion objects like the water):
http://www.virgeweb.com/rage2/zoohd/waterfall-24fps.jpg

And 30fps original source (a bit sharper):
http://www.virgeweb.com/rage2/zoohd/waterfall-30fps.jpg

It's much more noticable when I'm moving the camera around a lot, such as motion pictures. 24fps looks a lot better when in motion tho, more fluid looking. Not to mention a huge savings in bandwidth.

Thanks, most of them can not come off the camera like the way they're shown here, so yes, they're edited.

Thanks for the comment Ben. There are a lot of cool pictures on this forum!

As far as editing is concerned I can't speak for anyone but myself in that I try not to edit too much because I think you start to lose the original picture. For all of the pictures on this forum I resized them, cropped one or two (the lion comes to mind), and added a little contrast to a couple of them. In fact if you look at the Cougar picture I didn't even take out the bars... Looking at it now maybe I should have. :dunno:
