basically if you are a young male in alberta, just start paying now or go as an occasional under your parents. there are no other options if you want to drive. it will be very expensive to get your own policy, and it will only be worse if you get a ticket or accident. so to inform you of this cruel world we live in. im 20 and pay 2400

Yea it is going to be 1600/yrly, but its not just that, its funny how it works, you can get into an accident lets put it that way. OInce you are going to get into one accident your payment doubles from 1600/yr to 3200/yr, and so on with any accident, as the year goes from one to the next instead of paying 1600/yr they take off a certain percentage of a600/yr and lower it, but you need to have it clean, not even speed tickets. Its a sweet deal if your a good driver but if your not, it could get ugly

Then if he gets in an accident and they find out his mom is NOT the primary driver, and that the car is being used for MORE than a pleasure vehicle he's fucked.

I know more than a few young kids who tried to work around the system like that. Some of them it worked out OK some got into a whole heap of trouble and are still paying out the ass for insurance years later.

i think i'll still be fucked on with the reform...

right now 340/month, plpd, 1 ticket which comes off this year, o accident which i SHOULD have payed out, or asked for additional quotes, only 6 more years till cheap insurance

thats through AMA, i can't find ANYTHING cheaper. TD keeps on "forgeting" to send me an application form even though i've requested one on 3 occasions. :(

Major deciding factor in insurance

- age (breaks @ 23 and 25)
- pass claims/accidents
- insurance history (if you're not insured in the last 2 years, you record resets and start @ highest rate, it's critical you have continuous coverage)
- offenses/tickets
- sex
- marriage

Minor deciding factor in insurance

- High power vehicle (200hp+ will cost more to insure)
- SUV > Coupe > sedan
- Stolen rate
- price/class of vehicle

It all kind of funny how they class insurance costs, reasons why i thinks it's all bullshit.
1.) I never see anything but mini vans with middle age people speeding
2.) I have just about been hit by more careless 30yr olds that dont sholder check and are to confident with there driving
3.) I was hit from behind by some ass shit that was 35+ wrote of my hatch, I am still recovering and have been in physio for over 3 months
4.) If you go by actual statistics are age group is SECOND least likely to get in an accident and second least likely to have one involving death, but 25-45yr olds have the highest accident rate and are most likely to get involved in a accident causing death

Also i think there is no need to put a cap on injury claims because you would never no the pain or how it fucks up youre life until you have one. The insurance industry in our province is bullshit they lie about not making money but as their yearly report comes in they have made double what they did last year and are still having to pay out injuries. Our insurance only provides a service nothing else, and to receive anything from them in any situation they have to pay out, you have to fight for every dollar and they dont help you in anyway.Dont always think to that because you have accident free they wont raise your premiums as my mom had a 20% increase because she was do for an accident.

Sorry for the rant but we are all getting raped i have taken the course and everything and pay 3800 for plpd with fire theift. The whole situation is B.s and why in a democratic situation as this dont we the people the buyers and taxpayers have more say over what the final ruling is?

OH yah why in a world of equlity should your sex matter for insurance.

85 toyota mr2
no tickets
no accidents
$400/month
fire/theft
plpd

the catch is, that i had no insurance history, in october i will move to TD, they quoted me at $200.

i go through salmon palmer insurance.

It's a rip off. But what can you do? If you scam the system, they will fuck you in the end...
Just bend over I guess?

But yeah, I have been hit by 3 older (25+) people, and 1 young kid... but somehow people under 25 are more likely to cause an accident? BS

i was just wondering how much did you guys pay for when you first started driving, because i'm going to have to get mine soon, and from what i've read TD seems to be the best choice, would it help lower the rates if your family already has bank accounts and doing mortgages there???

and how exactly does the BC insurance system differ from ours?

kolumbo69
03-24-2004, 03:28 PM
Bc system is govermental and it has no biased stuff such as age and such just amount of drving experince. They mostly just do your insurance on what the book value of your car is. But the bad side of that is if your car is actually worth more than the book value they would rather have you with private insurance anyways.

Alberta's insurance rates are retarded, I grew up in BC and when I turned 16 it cost me $900 to insure my Corolla GTS. Four years later I had the safe drivers discount of 40% and I was paying just over $700 /yr.

The rates here are disgusting, but since I am over 25 they aren't too bad but I have no idea how you younger guys can do it.

It should be interesting when I go to get my own policy next year.. considering that I committed Insurance Fraud... (charges were dropped, No Criminal Record)...

However I am still on as a casual driver with my parents (same company I tried to screw over) and the first year after my offense, I had to pay $998 for my part of being on my parents policy... this past year it dropped down to $642... So I dunno what the insurrance company is doing.. but I hope this is a sign of what I can expect when I get my own policy... :)

EDIT: I am currently 22..
