View Full Version : Do people really care about trader rating?

Just wondering about this this week, since I've bought and sold things from beyonders lately.

Does anyone care about trader ratings? Do you look at them before you buy something?

I do, yea.

I do only because mine > rage2

But seriously, would you make deals with a new account that had zero trader rating and no posts?

If I see the person has numerous positive trade reviews and zero negatives, it makes me not worry at all about dealing with them or thinking I might get screwed over. I would probably think the same about a long time member though even if they didn't have trader ratings. New user + no trade rating and I wouldn't deal with them.

Same here, because mine > yours.

I would, but I would be more wary and inspect the item further. We all start off somewhere.

shit I probably have half the trader rating I should have. I rarely get a trader rating anymore. I look at them to see if more reputable members have dealt with the person.

What defines a "more reputable member"?

someone who at least somewhat regularly posts, I think, as opposed to trader rating.

When people ask questions here and I don't recognize the OP username, I look up previous posts. If they are someone who only comes here to ask questions and/or sell stuff, I troll :D

I stopped caring like 5 years ago. If I insisted on getting one for the past 5 years, I'd be well over 100 I am sure. I also haven't really bought/sold on here in a while I feel, which makes me feel like someone should buy/trade my watch I got for sale on here right now, so I can get a trader rating.

Trader rating is just another meaningless number in the grand scheme of things.

i just look at them for the lols, never a consideration when actually doing a deal.

I use it, but i feel the marketplace as become much less active over the years. Would I deal with a newbody? Sure, but I would treat it like a typically kijiji transaction. I also look at when the last time a transaction was done. No transactions in a few years and I basically treat them as a '0'

I always forget its there until after the fact

I don't know that it's less active. I've both bought and sold items in the last week, and I don't even both posting to Kijiji unless beyond fails me.

Sold and bought a few things on here, but nobody has ever given me a rating :(

I'll be sure to not deal with NoPulp based on his shitty trader rating.

I always try and leave feedback. The last couple years it never seems to be reciprocated.

Used to when I first joined the forum, but nowadays doesn't seem like as much as before. The last few things I bought, no one left any feedback whatsoever.

Suppose people probably think that you don't really need it...

I think it use to matter a bit but the regulars pretty much know who is who so ya.

In the past, it mattered to me, and I would PM the buyer/seller to leave feedback but nowadays not so much. If its a well known member then I wouldn't hesistate and if well known member f'd me over, I would make a big thread and pressure admin to give me all info on member and track him down.

I do on other forums especially for gun related stuff, the old saying of "Just because I'm buying guns doesn't mean I didn't bring any" is relevant. I got scammed a couple years back on a firearm purchase and now I want multiple proofs of this persons legitimacy before I do any business with them.

We should get our percentage bumped backed up every year like ebay..

I leave feedback but I find barely anyone does in return. I'll browse other peoples trader rating, especially if its a user name I don't recognize.

CMW403

absolutely.

I find my good rating makes transactions 100x easier then they used to be. people see my trader rating and join date, they know that I value my ability to sell random things on beyond so I would never tarnish that by being late or hard to deal with.

I find if I have something for sale now, there is no haggling, no trust issues, literally just get PM saying "I'll come grab it right now, whats your address?"

I would say its a very valuable tool for people regularly using beyond to trade, which is what it has more or less developed into from just a "enthusiasts" forum.

I would agree that at least half of the times I have bought or sold something I haven't received feedback but its not a huge thing because there is a base there already. I do look at ratings when someone PM's me however. If I see a zero and its a lowball I know its not worth my time to bother responding.
