Hey guys,

I'm looking for the maintenance schedule for a 2014 Honda CBR500R -ABS.

I went to Adventure honda the other day to ask about the first 1000km service, and they mentioned they would do "valve adjustment/check", which is a very expensive service.

I've read on some forums that this isn't required until 24000km, but I"m not sure.

I don't have my original manual anymore.

Any of you know or have a 2014 CBR500r maintenance schedule/manual?

I want to check if in fact the valve adjustment/inspect is required at 1000km or not. I'd just rather not shell out money for a service that may not even be required at this level of use.

Thanks for your help

It should be in the manual. My Grom also called for a break in valve adjustment at 1000km.

Grabbed this off google.

So valve inspection at 1k, 24k, 48k

Have you tried the google machine? Its good to have the service manual.

That does sound right for a modern bike, you typically want to check your valves every 18-30000km. I do it myself every second year but thats because i'm crazy. As far as the first 1000km service, Its recommended if you want to keep your warranty. I wouldn't do it personally until the first 24k.

Typically for the seasonal riding we do in Calgary I just do a big servicing at the start of the year regardless of distance/ hours. Just makes everything easier and your set for the year.

^

The bike was out of warranty long ago so if it's a matter of warranty then i'd rather not do it now.

I'm a very casual rider so i'm not very intense with the usage.

I'd prefer to do it when I've actually used it significantly (ie 24k km).

The service for the valve adjustment/inspection is steep, so if i can get away with not doing it, i'd want to do that.

The 1000km service is more of an inspection than an adjustment. 9.9/10 times the valves are going to be within spec on a Honda at 1k. You can look into the cbr500 forums to see what other people are saying.
On my grom, everyone on the forum who had done the inspection said that it was within spec. The dealer (rocky Honda) told me it wouldnt affect the warranty if I skip it (told me the same for my cbr1000rr), because they've never had to make an adjustment on the first service anyway. It's just a precautionary thing

Sweet, thanks for the input everyone!

I guess I won't be going through with the valve adjustment check for now.

But still would love access to the manual. Any ideas on where it may be obtained?

:werd: your bike specific forum is your best friend. Like others have said the first one is probably not a full on valve job so the cost wont be as high as youd think. Go on the forums to see what the other riders with the exact bike are saying because you never know, that bike could be known for needing valve adjustments earlier than normal. I was looking into an rsv4r and that thing needed full on valve jobs as low as 3500kms
