Anyone know where I can pick up one of these locally??

https://www.amazon.ca/USB-Cable-SODIAL-OBD-II-2-VAG-COM/dp/B00LGJURXY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1497665522&sr=8-3&keywords=vag+reader

Also, what's the best free app I can download to read the code off my wife's Beetle??

Or better yet, where in Calgary can I buy the reader, I just want a cheap one like this..

No worries, we're keeping the Beetle so I expect to be using it more than once...

I've got a hex/usb cable and a licence - I should really just sell it to someone on here as I don't have use for it anymore.

:facepalm::facepalm::facepalm::facepalm:
You missed the point, that the genuine Ross-Tech Hardware allready comes with a software license which is basicly a 100 bucks off. You also missed that the genuine Ross-Tech stuff also works with the latest VAG-COM version 504.1 and Beta 510.0. Another thing is that you missed is the support and the higher quality than the cheap stuff made in china which you obviously bought.

Ya I'm going to spend $850 to scan a code for a
2001 Beetle ... You're the one that's missing something.

OBDeleven does 95% of what the Ross-Tech VCDS does at a fraction of the price so really it's a no-brainer.
