Only 3 weeks away. Anyone taking the day off to go photograph it? We won't get totality like most of the CONUS, but we'll still get about 75% coverage.

I'll be camping in Yellowstone and driving to Jackson for the eclipse. I will be getting just over 2 minutes of totality!

I won't be photographing the eclipse though. I bought a Nikon binocular (first Nikon product) and Baader solar filters for viewing.

Im camping at the west yellowstone koa and then driving to idaho falls to see it. Im just hoping the traffic isnt nuts to get into the path of totality

I think any area within the path of totality is gonna be absolutely nuts! I plan on leaving the campsite before sunrise and even then I expect traffic. I might just end up somewhere in the Grand Teton National Park.

I am thinking of driving down to Idaho Falls. Probably end up in Arco Idaho or the like somewhere where there will be less people.

I see that some of the freak churchy/ nut cases are predicting the end of the world with this event .... again.

Wanted to go, but my wife ran out of vacation. Guess I'll have to wait for the next one to come to us. (2044)

Tip, you can make a crappy eclipse viewer with any tiny circular hole and a flat surface. You can see the general shape really well. Or any leafy tree is casting semicircle shadows right now.

Someone in the office has the proper glasses. Looks pretty cool right now.

Wore three pairs of welding glasses and looked at it lol. Made a pinhole camera too with a spare box at work. That worked pretty well too

I imagine an electronic welding helmet would be best.

Just watched it in Langley, BC.

Bit of a disappointment if you ask me. I know were only about 80% coverage here but I expected it to get a lot darker at the peak. Used a 14 welding shade to view it.

Fiddled with my settings. Got a better picture with my potato. Taken through eclipse glasses.

Ended up taking a timelapse video and speeding it up a bunch - Not sure if you can actually see anything? But meh I tried..

also made a pinhole camera, but the image was small and was really hard to get a good photo

This was pretty darn anti climactic! Was hoping for duskish lighting, but only got light cloud cover shade at best.
Looks like im going to have to be in Texas for the 2024 event.

I am in Edmonton and I didn't even notice that it got dark at all....lol

Wasn't really that noticeable here, but I was watching the news coverage from Idaho and Wyoming, and it got pretty f-ing dark out there. Looked like it would've been interesting.

Even as an amateur astronomer, I've never had any interest in an eclipse. I mean, it gets kind of dark for a few minutes. Big deal.

Want some mind blowing celestial stuff? Then check out Saturn, globular cluster M31, the Orion nebula, the Andromeda galaxy, etc, through a good telescope.

Did you watch the Nasa Feed? it got insane dark... Was really cool to see..

RickDaTuner

Yeah the CNN coverage showed it best imo, it went from full day, to New Moon Darkness in the course of 5 mins. That was super interesting to see.

I was out for all of it, and you definitely felt the temperature drop, and saw the sky turn orangey-red with a reduction of luminosity, but it was nothing like what the full eclipse locations experienced.

Or any leafy tree is casting semicircle shadows right now. This was the most interesting part to me, thanks for mentioning this, I wouldn't have looked otherwise.

A partial eclipse is never a big deal which is why I don't get why people are disappointed here? You weren't in the path of totality, none of the hype was meant for you.

It's cool to look at for second but that's all it is. Even 90% coverage is nothing special.

Seeing the actual total eclipse is apparently a life changing event. Definitely something I will be trekking to see one day. 2044 is just too far away and is also going to be taking place right before sundown which means the mountains could get in the way.

My family and I went to rexburg idaho to see it. It was pretty fucking awesome to see the eclipse at totality. Just a black circle with bright white flames around it. There were thousands of people there and it took 4 hours to drive back to the campsite we were in that was 60 miles away.

You could see some stars and Mars or Jupiter I believe when it was completely dark.

Temp drops and weird light casting could definitely be felt and seen. Reminds of the eclipse I saw in 86?

No point in me trying to take pics of the eclipse, there are people with better gear for that. My welding helmet worked like a hot damn for viewing though. Got pics of us working hard in the shop this morning.

My first attempt at a timelapse video. Sat out there from 9:30 until after 1:00.

I figured everyone was going to get pictures of the eclipse itself, so I thought I'd see what it would look like if each frame was taken at a constant shutter speed. While the sun was still too bright to show the eclipse without a filter, it's pretty evident there was a drop in the amount of sunlight.

1802 frames taken every 6 seconds from 10:05am until 1:05pm. Three hours compressed into 1 minute.
