I just got this email. It said

"
Just a little something of interest that has been a project. My friend works for the Alta Gov’t in Fish and Wildlife and her colleagues (up in Edmonton) threw this her way…not a pleasing project…

Yeah, unless the have a camera watching the camera, they won't last a day out there.

Thats one garbage can that i will be tipping over on sight!
Maybe you guys with winter beaters can do us a favor and just drive off the road and hit them by accident? :dunno:
It would all of us some cash!

I don't think they'd leave an expensive camera unattended - that's just asking for trouble

That would be pretty tough to see if placed behind a tree like that. I don't know how many places in Calgary it would really work though....I mean, a garbage can sitting on Deerfoot is more suspicious than a Minivan with it's hazards on.

they will probably have a cop watching it. just inconspicuously

It would be better if it was the R2D2 robot from starwars booking it down deerfoor taking photos.

you all say they won't leave them unmanned... but really whos gonna even think that a garbage can is gonna be snapping photos of you when you fly by... not to mention, are you really gonna turn around after flying by to knock it over? I mean, you must be in a hurry to get somewhere if you are speeding.. so you must not have the time to turn around....

That would only work if the camera was supervised. Otherwise I would have a collection of very expensive cameras in my garage...

Oh yeah, I'd take it out if i saw one of those.

But if i got caught by R2-D2 that would be adifferent story!

:werd: they have them out in springbank...and a cop parks within sight of it, in a typical photoradar van, un marked

Not to try to double post here - I just left a very similar reply in an another thread but its appropriate here too: In Alberta, unless the law has recently been changed, Photo Radar still requires an operator to be present during the operation of the camera and make a speed estimation in conjunction with the operation of the radar.

Red light cameras, by virtue of their being able to demonstrate more clearly the offence do not require an operator.
