So Halloween is becoming more and more about blow-up figures for your lawn - not my thing but Christmas appears to be even more awash with these things. I'm still trying to understand what a blow-up green dinosaur on someone's lawn has to do with Christmas or a blow-up minion.

That said, it is becoming quite apparent that these blow-up things are here to stay - saw a place yesterday just on the east side of 14th Street SW down around Southland that must have had over $2,000 of these blow-up things on their front lawn. Home Depot was selling a 14 foot tall Christmas themed Mickey Mouse, some of these things are massive. That said and knowing beyond's general demographic I wonder how popular these blow-up things really are.

Kids and wife loves them. We have four right now (Sully, Yoda, Lrg 3 Minion one, Darth Vader)...if front yard can fit more I'm sure my wife would buy more.

Unsurprisingly, I see a lot of these in the lower-middle income areas. What a waste of $$.

Also, those Walmart spinning lights that reflect on a wall = ghetto. Laser ones are much better looking.

Personally, we are about winter lighting - not xmas lighting. The darkest/gloomiest time of the year is in January when the xmas crap gets turned off. We've chosen lights that are not xmas, but more winter-oriented instead and will stay on til March.

If you get a chance, check out the giant Santa they have in Livingston, I thought it was pretty cool.

I hate these things normally though and used to laugh when I was on community Facebook groups and all youd see are posts about people stealing them, like what the hell did you think would happen? Might as well put a sign on them that says steal me.

We got a 16' Grim reaper this year. Wasn't my choice but I have to admit it is pretty cool. And just last week we just got gifted a blow up snowman. Not sure I want to put that one up. Humbug.

I basically hate Christmas because it coincides with the time of year I get seasonal affective disorder. If my wife bought one I'd put it up. But I basically only put up a bare minimum of lights and that's just for the kids. I usually can't wait until January.

they get pretty cheap on boxing day. like $10 for a thing that cost $100 a day before.

Maybe they're making their little kids happy as fuck with any/all of these things and they think it's the coolest thing ever. So what.

Fuck I hate Xmas. Decorations and cramped trinkets and other shit everywhere making my house cluttered. My OCD really comes out but the wife and kid love to do it.

I do the inflatables for Halloween. I think I am up to 8 or so now. They are fun, and the kids love them. our house is one of the most popular in the area for halloween, and parents are constantly getting their kids to pose with them and taking their pictures. They are a fun addition, but, now everyone has them, so the hipster in me says I was doing it before it was cool.

Christmas now, I just plant the laser light pod in the front lawn and let it do its thing. 5 mins set up versus like 5 hours and climbing on the roof trying to put up string lights....no thanks.

Maybe it's the old man yelling in me but what is the point of decorating at all??? Just because it's tradition...pffftt.

lol, people shouldn’t celebrate anything. In fact they should show no signs of joy or community spirit whatsoever. They should ensure their day and everyone’s around them is as monotonous as the last.

Seriously, some of you seem like the most anti-social and miserable people ever. While the rest of us enjoy the season and celebrate with neighbors you can sit and pout in your dark room with nothing but the light of your computer screen to brighten your life.

This thread is hilarious....

I don’t do any exterior decorating but I certainly don’t fault those that do. I’m just lazy.

There is nothing really original about 12 homes in a 5 minute walk having the same Chinese made, Walmart fabric dolls propped up on their lawn. I think thats more of the issue here.

Some of the better xmas decour around my area definitely has a unique and a cleaner/minimalistic look to it.

Can’t that be said for literally every Christmas decoration?

Not gonna lie man your post sounds like you have a bushy beard, man bun and sip double shot americanos at good earth because Starbucks is too mainstream :)

I value unique and original thought when it comes to xmas lights and decour. Many in our area have done this and the kid and I walk around (well, I jog and he sits in a stroller) and look at some of the better examples in our neighbourhood.

We don't have an inflatable decoration, but I haven nothing against them. The neighborhood kids love the things, so that's cool in my books. I stick to lights, for the most part.

Not a personal fan of them.

MOST are tacky as all hell, and most that i've seen set up are unimaginative and are just thrown up as a "look we did something", and if that wasn't their intention... Thats how its perceived...

I hold the same perspective on those laser things as well. I've seen some look pretty sweet... Some again not so much, really depends on the shape of your house and the other supporting stuff you have going on for decorations.

I absolutely love well done up Christmas lights, really makes the home! ... and growing up would go to the Lions lights at the Confederation Park golf course every year, now thats the AB Leg grounds in Edmonton now that I live DT Edmonton... Can't go wrong with nice lights!
