Hello,

I am being offered a 2014 Grand Cherokee Laredo with leather and under 70 xxxkm on it for 21k.

The AMVIC inspection states the following items as non-compliant
-Parking Emergency break
-disk breaks
-shoe pads
-tires

With the above items required, is this still a good deal?

Thanks in advance.

Brakes aren't a big job to do yourself, but quite expensive for a shop, and worse from a dealer. No idea about the parking brake on these.
Tires will be a thousand easily.

Why is there an amvic inspection anyway? Is it a used dealer selling? If they aren't fixing it, they know its a waste if money. Don't assume they are wrong.

Brakes/tires are an easy fix. 21k is wholesale price. do it

Two people close to me had 2013 and 2014 models, they both had transmission problems, as well as some sort of automatic collision avoidance headaches. I would stay away, but I'm bias, I think Jeeps are overpriced garbage.

I personally wouldn't touch one of these with a 10 foot pole as it will be off warranty soon. I also had a Cherokee as a rental for a week and it is was one of the worst vehicles I have ever experienced.

Are they still making these on the ancient Mercedes ML platform?

I have had GCs for rental a few times and love them....but would never buy one based on the issues whenever I research them. Electrically mainly ala fiat

Coming from someone that has actually OWNED two, id say its an ok deal value wise. At that price, though its likely a base V6 laredo which doesn't come with any of the creature comforts i personally look for. All of my JGC's have been overland with hemi.

Some options to look for would be 4x4+Select-Terrain. Without that, its pointless having a Jeep. You also get the base radio which doesn't include nav. Expect to add on another $3k in parts ect for the repairs listed. More if you get a shop to do it. If its 4x4 and you can come in under $25k, its an ok deal. Else, move on.

Personally though, my suggestion would be to go for a limited with the hemi at minimum. Its tough to say what engine is in this one but at the price id say its the V8. You could probably walk out of there with it for $28k-$29k and it will have no issues you need to fix right away. So $4-$5k for a lot more power, comfort, and jeep capability.

Motor trend got it to do 0-60 in 6.7 seconds which puts it in economy car territory. Certainly not fast, but it probably wouldn't feel slow either.

Only new vehicle I've ever driven that broke down on the test drive. True story.
