Looking for some information and feedback on these areas.

I would consider myself an IT Generalist as I know a lot about a little of different things. In my last position I never had any real hands on experience with MS Server or Active Directory as being a contractor we only had access to utilities that allowed ceetain things to be done.

For example any AD work being done was through a front end called DRA but was mostly for adding people to groups and accounts.

Now that I am looking for work again one thing I see a lot of is the prerequisite of experience with Server and or AD and would like to try and get some 1 on 1 time if possible in a cheap way.

I have looked at courses but they are all well above what I could possibly afford so looking for some ideas to gain some experience.

also i'm pretty sure you can get some free credits to Azure - spin up some servers and play around. you can probably even create a domain controller.

What timdog said... But to add:

There's eval licenses for most Microsoft products... Load up VMs (or use Azure credit). Deploy some servers, learn the technology, play, etc...

It might be worthwhile to play locally in your own play environment first before going to Azure. You want to understand basic concepts before adding cloud to the mix.
