I just found a replay feed and watched the fight.
Wow.

Ortiz could have had it. I felt he should have kept on working the the jab, being more compact and working the anti clockwise on Wilder.
Wilder had fast upper speed, fast upper movement and that power punch. But his noodle legs and legwork were his weak point in my opinion. Ortiz should have exploited that.
I don't think Wilder won it, Ortiz lost it.

Hard to say, wilder can take punches, there’s no question in that. I mean really, with his non existent defense style, he’s had a lot of practice.

LOL... true. His reach is pretty insane.

Wilders fighting style seems very similar to Naseem Hamed.
Hamed was unbeatable, his leg stance also looks the same. Watch how Barrera works going clockwise and observe Hameds footwork.

Wilder is no where near the foot work of Hamed. Hamed had great mobility and foot work where there none with Wilder. Double edge sword with the movement of Ortiz, if he keeps his lead foot on the outside of Wilder (which means he had to circle left) he walks into his right hand but at the same time sets up his power hand to land. Great fight though, Ortiz has skills

This. Aside from records and maybe punching power, they're not really too similar. The Barrera fight is kind of a cherry picked fight where he was matched with a much more technical opponent, so yea, in this fight you can say he looks kinda like Wilder, mostly in desperation. Hamed was one of the few non heavyweights that I followed, was a huge fan.

Oh crap I missed this.
I was just watching the highlights and I found the replay online.

Holy shit, Joshua got beat by a cheeseburger. Think about it. Flying all the way to the USA. Fighting a fat American and loosing. He's not gona live that down.

Joshua... wtf was his game plan? He just looked like he was just brawling after going to the local kebab shop after a night out in Watford.

Ruiz jogging around the ring after the knockdown and jumping after the win. That dude defied the laws of physics. Mega props, he can punch.

I don't think I would go that far, Mayweather is probably the greatest defensive fighter of all time. He would go full fights without getting touched. Not everyones cup of tea but that takes a lifetime to master.

;4834610']Clinic for boxing fans, snoozefest for KO highlight fans haha

With heavyweights, I want to see a knockdown or a knockout. With no knockout, I want to say "oooooo" and cringe a few times when the boxers get hit hard. There was really none of that.

When Ruiz got cut in round 1, it looked like Joshua tapped him. Both boxers didn't take a risk on Saturday night. AJ won on points due to his height and reach advantage. Yes, the plan was flawlessly executed to win back the titles, but there was no flair. It was a "safe" fight that he knew he could win if he stuck with the plan.

ibeast
12-09-2019, 12:16 PM
A lot of that was because Ruiz came into the fight really out of shape. He was in the middle of the ring the whole fight and if he was in shape he would have been able to cut the ring off and get inside.

dimi
12-09-2019, 12:57 PM
He did what he had to do, but it was not an exciting or impressive performance, especially against a fat and out of shape Ruiz. Fury by easy UD, Wilder by brutal KO, so I don’t anticipate those fights happening any time soon. Fury Wilder 2 though is going to be epic.

jabjab
12-10-2019, 12:17 PM
Concern with the wilder vs fury rematch is that Fury has to have a perfect fight plan, just like Joshua did. If gets clipped with a clean right hand from Wilder there is no assurance that he gets up this time.

He was hurt pretty early on. He looked completely off by round 3 and was just throwing random ass shit.

I'd have to watch the replay, but I feel like Round 2 was the end of Wilder. I think if Fury had more gas, he would have finished in Round 3.

By round 5, Wilder looked to be bleeding from every orifice.

The post fight interview was funny. "No excuses, but I had a lot going on." Reminded me of Ruiz saying the same "no excuses, but I partied too much"

I wonder if Joshua is willing to fight Fury.

rage2
02-24-2020, 10:23 AM
Joshua's a pussy. If he's afraid of Wilder, he's not going anywhere near Fury. It'll be fun to see what excuses he comes up with to dodge Fury.

Sucks that Wilder lost since I'm a fan, but hey, heavyweight boxing is back and that's all that matters.

Wilder will most likely trigger the rematch clause and they will go at it for the third time. As good as Fury looked people need to remember that Wilder is not the greatest boxer but rather a good puncher, he was losing to Ortiz before he caught him.

Joshua will be a much tougher opponent then Wilder for Fury

If I was Wilder i would not excerise the re match clause until he gets some tune up fights and go with a trainer that can offer better corner advice that just "advance with the right hand" He did not have a plan B. It will be much of the same with Joshua, he has a weak chin and Fury will finish him off too.

Wilder got outclassed, took a heavy beating, and I don’t think he’ll ever be the same. It was actually hard to watch at times because I’m a big fan. Soon as I saw 231lbs, I knew it was over. That extra 20lbs only slowed him down, and he looked atrocious.

Who is "Jones"? Is he a senior citizen with diminished mental capacity who has not boxed in a competitive match in literally decades?

I'm guessing "no, he is not"?...
Geez - I wonder what's going to happen!

This reminds me of a boxing match recently where the one gentleman was the most proficient boxist in recorded history while his competitor was not a boxer. Many wagered on the result, for some reason.

I missed some of the prelims so I will have to go back to watch. That Jake Paul Nate Robinson fight was embarrassing. What was Nate doing, trying to back yard scrap? Now that loser's (Jake Paul) ego is so big he's calling out Connor McGregor and other professional seasoned vets. Besides Snoop I thought the entertainment was piss poor unfortunately. Am I just that out of touch with music that the kids are into or what was going on with some of those artist choices? Also, I can't get over that even at 54 Tyson is still a god damn beast. There were a few times you could see his wires cross but he some how brought it back. I definitely thought once it hit round 6 they were both going to go for the kill but with only 2 minute rounds and the ref letting them hug it out there wasn't much of a chance too. Tyson put on a clinic but kudos to Jones for stepping into the ring.

The fact that was scored as a draw is complete horse shit. What do places like Draft Kings and the likes go off of when paying out?
