Looking to mount a TV above the mantle on our fireplace, thought this type of mount might be a good option to bring the TV closer to an eye level position. Does anyone have any experience with these? Thoughts? Or brands to look into?

Probably leaning towards a MantelMount right now.

I have one mounted above the fireplace from monoprice from Amazon.

It does what it's supposed to. Pivots very smoothly from left to right. Generally leave it in the down position and only raise it to show people or dust the mantel. I'm glad I didn't spent any more than I did because it's a set once and leave it type of thing. Once you adjust the tension, it's good to go forever.

Not related to the mount itself, but I've read that having the TV over a fireplace can result in heat related issues for the TV

My buddy has one, we have remounted it in his new home as well. You have to be careful with how far the mantle protrudes from the wall, as the mount arm can hit the mantel in lowered position, or be in the way to the point where you can't actually extend it all the way down, really depends on the mantle height and protrusion.
