So my wife bought a nice 2 tier tool box yesterday off a bidding battle thing, and it was actually full of tools. Has lots of drivers, wrenches, impact guns, sockets etc. Was a great buy, but after going through it I found these in the bottom. What are they? They twist up and down, and the one has bits loaded in the bottom of it. Never seen one before so I was just curious.

Screwdriver on bottom, pressing on it causes it to twist. Old tech.
Top one could be a spring loaded punch? What happens when you press it down?

ahh makes sense, kind of interesting. When you press the other down it rotates in (tightens/spins clockwise), but you cant change the direction it spins like you can with the other one.

It’s called a yankee screwdriver.

Think of it as a precision drill. Only needs to go one way.

Fuck, now I feel older than dirt, that someone didn't have a clue what those were.

Haha. That doesn't take much these days with uneducated people.

That second one looks makeshift to me. The handle is old, whereas the rest of it is relatively newer design. (As new as a manual automatic screwdriver CAN be I suppose).

Nah, my grandpa had a near identical one. Was my favorite tool to fidget with as a kid.

^I don't think he meant specifically you. lol.

I also don't think he meant 'uneducated' strictly talking about books either. Hell, I am pretty well educated I think and I had no idea what those were either. lol
