Red Rock Coulee, it's other worldly. The only place in Canada that one can find native scorpions although I've never seen any. Be aware there are no services here, no water, no portapotties, no picnic tables or benches. Paved all the way from Calgary except for the last kilometer or so. We pretty much make a bi-annual trip here and very time we seem to find something new from fossils to weird mineral deposits.

Hundreds of these round red rocks, mini mesas too although one wouldn't want to be caught on one when it rains because the cracked soil will turn into the slipperiest mud you'll ever see. Rattlesnakes are also known to live here as well as pronghorn antelope.

Crowsnest Pass has plenty to see and explore as well.

Medicine Hat Clay District with a side trip to Cypress Hills or Red Rock Coulee.

The bad lands east of Manyberries but this would only be for somewhat seasoned explorers because it is desolate and again, there are no facilities or development there - just fossils and such.

Reynolds Museum in Wetaskiwin.

My wife got that book as a teacher gift when she first moved out here. For the first couple of years we were married, we went to a lot of these places (including the gofer museum).

Great resource!

Panorama and Golden/Kicking Horse are really easy to day trip, we used to do it all the time back when I was more into downhill mountain biking.

Many Glacier in Glacier National Park in Montana is only a 3 hour drive or 290KM depending on how fast you drive. We went there on the way back from montana this week and it was pretty awesome.
