I'm done.
A donut on any given time of day tastes like a day old. The Apple Fritters are about 90% soggy sugar now.
Toasted bagel? Forget about it. They might have waved to the toaster on the way to the cream cheese, but that's as close as it gets.
Anything with chicken, tastes like chicken noodle soup to me. Like, they had to dip the chicken in flavour so it could play the part.
The lids have been leaking for years, seems more so with black coffee, and lately the mouth part has been split open on every coffee I get so it's even worse than before.
I saw this new Waffle breakfast sandwich the other day, and I think the fact this thing exists is enough for me to switch entirely to McDonalds coffee. Safeway/Sobeys for donuts for sure, but I made that change a long time ago.

Keep in mind that Brazilian private equity firm 3G Capital bought Tim Hortons back in 2014 for US$12.5 billion.
That deal followed 3G’s purchase of fast-food giant Burger King in 2010 and the buyout of world-famous ketchup maker H.J. Heinz in partnership with Warren Buffett in 2013.
However, 3G is also well known for its aggressive cost-cutting practices led by a team of Harvard-educated investors.
So when it was announced that 3G would be taking over Canada’s leading coffee house, many wondered if would have any impact on the iconic brand’s home-cooked vibe.

How about everyone else? Are you loyal, done, or did you never bother in the first place?

Never bothered in the first place, 7/11 or McD's both make a decent cup of regular joe. Btw, poll doesn't accommodate those who didn't bother in the first place.

Nope. I dont like their coffee, but it's high caffeine content, and its the closest coffee place to my work. Their donuts (which i agree are as bad as the coffee) are also a nice sized and cheap "filler" for when I'm hungry.

So for me, its all convenience, not quality. I wish there was someplace else within 5 minutes of work, but there isn't.

Can’t stand their leaky lids and they never get my order right so I tend to avoid them.

I stopped going daily, and started making my own coffee at home. I'll still occasionally go, but I prefer McD's coffee (not that I can convince any of my coworkers to go to the one on Stephen Ave).
I like the Timbits, but their breakfast sandwiches are awful, and donuts are lackluster.

The coffee itself is also wildly inconsistent between locations, and sometimes even between who's been brewing it.

At work, we havent gone to Timmies for over a year now since we go to Olly's for breakfast and coffee now.
I do not crave for their donuts or timbits but if I have to go to Timmies then I'll get their coffee black or double double and croissant.

Never liked it. Coffee isn't good. Sandwiches are gross. McDonalds is head and shoulders above, the only thing I wish they had was timbits (only thing I don't mind at Tim Hortons).

When I'm forced to go to Timmys I always ask for a dome lid on my coffee so at least I can avoid that leaky, lip splitting trash they use for a lid otherwise.

I couldn't tell you the last time I ate or drank anything at Tims. Swore them off many years ago and have never been back.

Shitty coffee, terrible lids, awful sandwiches/"food", drive thru order guaranteed to be wrong every damn time....

Nope!

Tim Hortons has been disgusting for as long as I can remember. None of their food is 'healthy', they use the gross fake chicken with fake grill marks, their donuts taste days old, their muffins are almost as unhealthy as a crave cupcake and their coffee is (IMHO) always bad. I don't even know the last time I was there.

And those lids haha - as already mentioned, the worst.

There is better food, better donuts, and better coffee virtually anywhere else that sells any of those things.

Clearly I am in the minority though based on the size of the lineups at every single one of them.

If I have no choice but to get some fast food because I'm stuck in an airport or something, I'd much rather McDonalds or pretty much anything else.

The best coffee IMHO is places like Artigiano where it's still only $2.00 and you can get a great cup of black coffee.

Buster

I'll go there for a caffein injection. It's not bad if you don't consider it "coffee", but rather a "hot caffeine beverage".

I'm glad their donuts are disgusting. It would be bad if their donuts were delicious. Then I'd eat them.

Definitely don't get the lineups, other then people just being sheep and not wanting to change. An extra $1 for a starbucks coffee with no lineup is worth 10x the shit you get at timmies (and how much is your time worth in line)

I can't stand Starbucks black coffee. It's consistently burned every time I order it.

Yea I dont get this. I used to work off of 32nd ave NE and the TH drive thru was always lined up in the AM, sometimes 1/2 hr long. I could have had custom-made coffee in the office by then or something from a nearby SB or McD.

At SB, try getting BLOND roast. Its nowhere near as burnt and has more caffeine.

Basically this. There was a time when their hot chocolate and donuts were delicious, but that was decades ago.

I used to go every other morning while working after graduating high school. Went every other morning once I settled into Edmonton after graduating from NAIT. One day my friend put me onto Bacon and Egg mcmuffins about 2-3 years ago at McDonalds.

My earliest memories of mcmuffins were disgust, slimey nasty things that were awful. But apparently at some point they changed. That combined with their way better tea, and I was sold. I also pay less at McDonalds for more/better food.

I hate Tim Hortons so much I refuse to eat anything brought to work functions from them unless there is a rare day in the office when I am starving and haven't brought any home cooked food. Their food is complete and utter garbage.

The sausage McMuffin can be extremely greasy. Also the Macleod Trail McD's near the cemetary makes terrible McMuffins for some damned reason.

I will go there for a couple of things... liked Iced Capps if they are close by but generally speaking no more. I haven't gone to them in a long long long time and truly don't miss it. If I do go its for a donut or timbit as they are the simplest and easiest place to get them.

For me its now McDonalds or A&W for breakfast/coffee if needed. Second Cup for Hot Chocolate or London Fog tea.

I go there because its the cheapest in my building.. dont love the taste of coffee to start with, so why pay upwards of $1.00 more per cup for the same damn thing. (And ordering via the app helps skip the lines)

I can't stand Starbucks black coffee. It's consistently burned every time I order it.

Starbucks is equally bad if not worse than Tim Hortons. I've been on a few coffee tours now and the roasters have all used Starbucks as an example of some of the worst possible coffee you can buy. One thing they do is roast the crap out of it to hide the fact that it's low quality, stale coffee and then sell it as "extra bold" or whatever. It tastes like you're drinking tar. It makes sense when you consider how difficult it would be to get good, fresh coffee distributed to all the millions of Starbucks franchises.

The light/blonde roast is the only one I can stomach if I have to go there and it's usually pretty bad still, tasting very burnt.

An Americano is your best bet at Starbucks, from what I've been told by people who work there the espresso is by far the freshest of their coffee.

If you don't drink black coffee it makes less of a difference because all you taste is cream/sugar, but after you've had a decent cup of black coffee it's a night & day difference compared to the Tims/Starbucks type places.

It's funny, because some of my favorite beans to have at home, are Starbucks small batch. I'll try blond next time I'm forced there, since I usually ordered Pike's. Or maybe I'll just go with an Americano.

If I do go to Timmys... I go for the er... steep tea. But I have to ask for one sugar instead of two. For some reason I find it two sweet.

I do find the sugar content of the foods waaay off the scale. Its not sweet, its sickly sweet if that makes sense.
I would not mind the doughnuts if they just cut the sugar content in half.

Buying their actual coffee in bags for home consumption I think is a lot more fresh compared to what they get in their stores (especially the small batch stuff), but I haven't looked into it too much.

Also at the end of the day, whatever you like is the coffee you should buy  If you're buying small batch Starbucks beans from the store, grinding them yourself and brewing fresh, it's probably a million times better than their in-store stuff.

Other annoying things the responses reminded me of:
1) Line-ups - I recall a short line at the Heritage Drive Tims by Costco. The employee took the order and poured the coffee for the person in front of me, then when she said "next" the manager scolded her for not waiting until that person's order was completed. She literally stood there twiddling her thumbs and they watched me walk out.
2) You can have 20 cars in the drive-thru, and 3 people in the store, and chances are the people in the store will still be waiting while you're driving away.
3) Dumb line-up arrangements - The Tim Hortons in London Square or whatever, by McLeod and Heritage. There are two places to order, separated by about 20 feet. The South register has loads of space, while the North register has the line of customers. When you order on the South register, they direct you to stand with all the people in line instead of using the massive unused space on the South side. It's so dumb.

Never bothered in the first place, 7/11 or McD's both make a decent cup of regular joe. Btw, poll doesn't accommodate those who didn't bother in the first place.

I figured that could fall under "Any port in a storm...", more or less.

The coffee at Tims used to make me sweat...finishing mine from this morning, after posting this, confirmed that I'm done. It tasted really watered down, which is what I've noticed lately.

McDonalds it is, and London Fog by our office. Though last time I switched to McDonalds I ended up ordering things like fries as well...

Funny someone in here mentioned the muffins. I always found it odd that the Tim Hortons muffins contain 20-35mg cholesterol and McDonalds ones don't.

When Robin's was around back in the day, Tim Horton's was waaaay better.

I've stopped going since they started serving a huge array of mediocre food items. Generally Tim's coffee is crap and the food is even worse. Nothing tastes fresh and everything was frozen and/or powder. Some specific locations are worse than others in terms of availability, freshness and how they make the coffee as well.

Ever since McD's bought out the old Timmies coffee supplier, Tims has been shit coffee. Their food is fine, it's cheap fast food so I don't really care. But McD's is killing it in the coffee department. Taking over the Tims coffee, double walled cup technology so you don't burn your hands, lids that don't leak. Haven't tried any of their specialized coffee products like latte's and whatnot, but I see they are going hard providing consumers with options to steal some of the less snooty Starbucks customers.

I used to be a Timmies lifer. But when they changed their coffee I jumped off that bandwagon. The great thing about McD's having good coffee, is you can finally get a good coffee in the U.S. now! All they ever had was Dunkin Donuts.

What I find most interesting about Tim Hortons is that its always had this iconic canadian coffee feeling, like its the most popular chain in Canada. However, Second Cup is more popular in Canada than Tim Hortons, and I find second cup coffee way tastes worse than tim hortons. McDonalds is the most popular coffee in Canada, followed by Second Cup, then Starbucks then Tim Hortons, then A&W for some reason..

actually amazes me how many people get coffee on their way when it's so easy to make coffee at home now.
I throw the kettle on and grind beans when showering. Beans and water into french press as get dressed. Perfect coffee ready for the drive (and spare cup if wife isnt home).

You can be even lazier than that if you want - many coffee machines you don't even have to go through that much effort - it can be ground and brewed sitting hot in a travel mug at whatever time you program. Something like the Breiville YouBrew even makes it french press style.

Also, so many workplaces have free coffee that I am sure is better than Timmy's (I'd rather have a K-Cup), it amazes me at the size of the drive-through lines in the morning.

7-11 also usually has pretty good coffee if anyone is the "on the way to work" type, and you won't be waiting in line.

Even once I pull the pin and buy a 1000$ dual boiler espresso machine for the house, I'll still use McD's just because it's too convenient. No way I'm getting up a half hour early to make Latte's before work. But it will be a really nice weekend treat sort of thing.

I used to use the Keurig at home for ease. But I was so damn tired all the time. Looked it up and I was basically short changing myself on caffeine by half compared to Tims at the time. That put an end to Keurig pretty quick. But yeah for people with the luxury of sleeping in before work, sure I'd probably just make coffee at home. Alarm goes off at 4:20am, and I'm out the door with not a minute to spare at 4:50. Home coffee just isn't worth getting up any earlier.

The Americano I made this morning took me less than 2 minutes from start to finish. Lattes take about 5 including the time to foam the milk.

It's definitely not anything even resembling a half hour, though if I woke up at 4:20 am I can't say I'd be keen on getting up even a miute earlier either.

I travel in Canada for work a bunch and 95% of the time, the Tims is the only thing open/available/accessible in small towns and airports. Been a Starbucks guy for years, even spent a couple years working there. You need to know which coffees to order and which to avoid. They aren’t all for everyone.

How do you ever manage to get "butter slathered"?!?!?

Decided to grab Tim's today for a quick lunch, and ordered a bagel with extra butter (i've learned my lesson in the past with their nazi "butter" rationing)...only to drive away and find a mouse sized jizz of butter on each piece.....how hard is it to even apply normal butter to a bagel?????? Picked “more expensive coffee” but uhh... starbucks is awful, local independent shops... same as restaurants. Amazing the difference in product and service when the people actually working there have something on the line and not just working for minimum wage/tips

SB is fine, but places like P&S, Rosso, Analog, Deville are so much better.

Tried Hoopla today, way better than the shit that TH sells.

HAH not it won't ... half the time they don't have a effin clue and you still get it barely toasted.

Remember its on a conveyor and it means slowing down the line when they do that.

They just put it through the toaster twice?

Going to hoopla tomorrow with the wife and kiddo at lunch

I still Enjoy their donuts and Timbits but if I want coffee I go to McDonald’s. I usually get my steeped tea from Tim’s though.

Good luck, the place was packed yesterday. I got the last two donuts at lunch. They were making more but it was going to be about 20 minutes before they were ready.

The Timmies in my building singlehandedly made me hate the chain. Seems like alot of people have agreed with me too since there's never a line for it and the Starbucks has been insanely busy for the past few months. What really got me to stop for good was the saga where they just decided to take the dudes franchises out of his hands and changed the locks on him.

Had a bagel from McDonalds by Ranchmans yesterday, it was no better than Tim's...which is too bad.

Liking the $1 coffee though, and buy 7 get one free.

I thought their bagels were better then Tim’s. However, they cannot for the life of them figure out how to swap out bacon for sausage. First time they gave me sausage and bacon, no egg. Next time was just egg without any meat, and then finally just a straight fail.. I gave up asking

I had Deville this morning. It's fantastic.

Tried the SB Americano, wasn't a huge fan, tried the Blond roast, it's a little better, but I'll honestly stick to their teas.

Yeah I really don't know how people thing their food is good. Its all bagged and re-heated crap. If you get it served to you and they don't stir it... you get very minimal; soup and chilli are bad for this.

Agreed, Service is typically quite poor as well (unless you go to Gulf Canada Square, where its not exactly friendly but at least its a trade off for efficiency!).

I will say though, I tried out the Belgian Waffle Breakfast sandwich and it was really good.

If you agree the food is no good then why would you go back for more? Does not compute.

Every sled trip we go a couple of the guys insist we eat at timmy’s for breakfast. I don’t get it the food has become so fake and greasy and I feel sick almost every time after I eat it. Unfortunately there is a Tim horton’s in every small town.

Dropping Tims would be much easier if the wife didn't keep sending me out for nasty steeped tea. I like tea, but even the smell of that stuff is awful. So... Sitting in a ridiculously long drive thru line...

I am probably a lifelong timmies and McDonalds connoisseur.

The convienience of getting a coffee, the relatively low price (compared to starbucks, analoge, second cup), and the fact that their coffees are low acid and always fresh are what I like.

The regular coffees at the specialty shops are either too bitter or too acidic for my tastes, and turns me right off. I drink my coffee regular (1+1) and the only way i can drink a coffee from starbucks or second cup is to load it up with sugar.

I’ve stopped going to tims, a&w breakfast sandwiches are so much better. Real egg and their English muffins are actually toasted.

I drink my coffee black and A&W is WAY better than Timmy’s. At least you have control over milk/sugar at A&W too if you like your coffee that way. GF used to get sugar in her tims and their standard amount is insane, makes me nauseous, it’s like drinking candy water

I love the “Starbucks is too expensive compared to Tim’s argument” it’s like 45 cents difference on a large

If you don’t like it that’s cool, but the price difference is a blip on a blip

You sure? Swear it was more than that. A large Timmy’s is 20oz which = a venti at Starbucks

Couldn’t find prices on tims website so I used a third party to check. I think it actually used to be less of a difference than that, I remember years ago when I worked there is was like 25 cents.

If you are just buying coffee it’s a very small difference, most people I hear making the argument is comparing the price of a latte to Tim’s drip.

Guess you’re right for some reason thought a venti was more. Extra is right though, percentage wise that’s over a 20% difference. I put starbucks coffee roughly on the same level as Tim’s though so I wouldn’t want to pay 20% more for equally garbage coffee

Starbucks drip is definitely way stronger but just as bad IMO. I think they purposely make it crappy at the stores to push you to buy the more expensive drinks haha. I much prefer their Americano to their drip

I think that argument comes from the concept that the only thing worth getting at Starbucks is a latte, which is like 5-7$. Not comparing apples to apples, but technically it is a hell of a lot more expensive to go to Starbucks.

If you're just buying black coffee it's almost the same price everywhere, which why it's so easy to find coffee 100x better than Timmies. If you want a specialty mixed/blended drink, that is where the prices get ridiculous at places like Starbucks, Deville, etc.
