Looking at making more space in front of the door. Can I just cut it away and make the stairs straight and re-floor?84366

Yes, you can install a swimming pool there too. Anything is possible, but if you need to ask, hire a carpenter.

yes you can. not terribly hard either, but expect it to not be cheap either.

You'll get even more space if you replace your staircase with a ladder.

Your not going to gain that much room because they are going to have to extend the stairs anyways to make them safe. On top of fixing and correcting the railings amongst other things.

Already have tiles from the builder.

I know it won't gain a lot of room, but right now half a foot would be awesome.

JfuckinC: I am the first owner, but I see a lot of houses with this setup. I hate it.

are these stairs on the main floor or basement? if it they are on the main floor just look below and then and make sure by modifying the landing area you don't cut into your basement stair headroom.

Main floor. Basement is undeveloped.

Isn't the turn there a code thing - maximum length before you need a landing (in case of slip and fall)
