Parents have an old KitchenAid refrigerator that is making a fairly loud squealing type noise. Wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a company/person to check it out.. Given its age, not sure if it's even worth fixing. A quick google search points to an issue with the compressor.

Thanks

No its typically not worth calling in a contractor for something internal like that. If they/you can fix a small issue (like a noisy fan) then thats ok - but good, used Fridges can be had for <100$ on Kijiji (plus 50-100$ delivery).

Its the same for most large appliances - dishwasher for eg.

Squealing is most likely just a fan motor starting to go and not the compressor and is a cheap repair if they or you have a few hand tools and are mechanically inclined. The motor will be readily available at AMRE Supply or online.

Pull it out and clean the vents front and rear. Check the fan for play and clean around the fan motor. If its still loud after that probably need to replace fan motor which may or may not be worth it depending on the age of the fridge. Those are often touch calls to make.
