Well I was looking to get a 90 300ZX, then doing a TT swap on it, but today my plans changed. A friend decided to sell his mint 1982 Chevrolet Corvette. He's going to sell it for 16g, but for me he'll do 12g. Now this is going to work out to be cheaper and less hassle than my 300zx idea, so I'm seriously considering it. Both are very appealing cars, but I was just wondering what other people thought. Which would you rather get? I'm already guessing what the majority will say due to the large amount of import owners on this site, but I'd like to know what peoples opinions are. Thanks

It looks identical to this one, same color, removeable top, same tires and wheels...just the pic is a 77, his is an 82.

Snap that fucking vette up man. The Z will handle better and won't gulp the gas (as much) but it will never have the soul of the vette.

wow ! Z is a nice car .. but .. that is ! Z is just a nice car ! doesn't hv class, and charater !

If you can get a nice condition Vett, ( C 3 , C4 is ulgy )

For same money, you probaby can only get a 91-92 300ZX turbo, with is not bad ..but again, nothing special, and they r everywhere.

Do it ! and for $12K ? for one with only 80K ? ha ha .. if you don't buy it.. let me know ! :D

Don't get the Vette. Those C3's make NO power, they are junk. Get the 300zx. It will handle better, drive better and be faster. I work on a lot of Vettes so my opinion is definetly not import biased.

Whoops I missed that you didn't want a TT300zx................ On the other hand I would still get an NA 300zx over a C3.

P.S. The average done up NA Honda makes more power than your average C3 Vette. (On the chassis Dyno.)

True but you'll get more :poosie: in the Vette.

I'd rather have that than a slightly faster car. :bigpimp:

Well I'm not going to race this thing. I may occasionally open it up to burn off some carbon, but it won't get abused. I like this car more for the style...I mean how many of these do you see going around...and in this good of shape? I know of noone that has ever really dissed a corvette. Every generation of people will give it props. But anyways thanks for your comment.

Then you also know that there are a hell of a lot better engines that you can put in the vette should he want more power.

And he can not afford a stock TT, and a turbo engine swap will cost a hell of a lot more money and be more difficult than a built carbed smallblock in the vette.

This is the total opposite of what I was expecting lol. I thought it would end up being another domestic bashing session, but guess not. I've pretty much made my decision, but it's not 100% final yet (he's 95% sure he's selling it).

90_shelby : I do value your opinion and will keep it in mind.

shelby is right, they are big engines but they dont produce much power, except for torque.

Wicked car though, and alot better looking IMO, the car is shaped like a penis!!

I wish man.......that engine is just plain NUTS. Probably costs 30grand though lol.

The 82's only came with autos because the manual trannies weren't very good at handling the power of the 350. You could get it on previous models but they weren't very trustworthy. I see this as a downside, taking half the fun out of driving, but I don't really care because the car's so gorgeous:bigpimp:

Didn't they use T-10 manual trannies in previous models? My uncle used an unmodified one in his 500 HP 454 Camaro and it held up fine.

Anyway, I'm sure there are tons of kits to adapt a newer manual, like a T56... maybe even a fucking T56 transaxle out of a C5!

get the vette, don't swap in a big block, just mod the 350 in there already. a nice stroker kit, LT1 style fuel injection, some exaust and a little gearing and your in the 13's everytime.

ya man, seriously dont get a big block, its takes wayyy too much money to run a proper big block setup. a 350 is your best bet, you can still get serious power out of one. i wonder how an LS1 would suit a C3... old looks with modern tech :burnout:

Wouldn't modding the car take away the value of it as a collectors item?

In the future I'd probably plan to do some of that stuff if it didn't make the car worthless. I'll start looking into trannies that work with this engine. Thanks for the suggestions.

Maybe if you had a picture of a mint 300Z, people would vote differently.

I would definately get the vette for that price - that's crazy. And I'm assuming it's easier to work on, mod, get parts for than a 300Z, no? I love 300s tho, so sexy.

I don't know if it would be easier to get parts for, being 10 years older, but from what I've researched so far, new panels, engines, and engine parts are quite common. I've always been a fan of older cars because they don't rely on all this electronic garbage. So what they might be more economical and powerful, It's getting to the point where you can't even work on your own car anymore, just go to a dealership and pay some guy to plug it into a computer. I love 300ZX's too, but for the money the vette is looking like a better option.
