04Terminator is Toma

Toma banned October 2015, terminator shows up for November 2015
Gestalt created august 2016 and banned December 2018, terminator shows up at the same time.

Cool

Can we ban him yet?

Even phreak said I'm "nice" in a post above yours for the love of god

You people are hilarious  Toma was a weird dude, and is known to be a weird dude in real life. People seem to take staunch defense of ideas and arguments as anger, which I think reflects more on the passive personality of most people than on me. As mentioned in the banned thread, I have taken it to heart not to insult people, including when SOMEONE insults me such as in this quote (or joining Tik-Tok in insulting me again in the other thread), because the rules are different for different people on this forum. A big learning experience this has been ;)

Eccentric might be the better word, but anyone I ever talked to certainly found him interesting, as did I when I briefly met him. I didn't say he was a bad person (I doubt many dorks who hang out on a defunct car forum talking politics vs stuff about actual cars fall in that category).

And no, we haven't met.

I used to feel that way, but the world has changed and your online persona is an extension of your personal brand. Being a dink or a weirdo online follows you offline. Hell, people get fired over tweets now.

Too bad about Toma. You guys tuned one of my cars together, and as recently as three years ago he tuned a car for my brother. We also used his dyno for my GT350 and a tuned C63.

I should have been more clear - i was more referring to the manner in which they speak not their general ideas/viewpoints. For example i highly doubt hitemp would call people that don't agree with him retards/idiots/whatever to their faces if given the chance. just basing this on my experience with co-workers/friends how they are online and in group chats vs real life.

I'm jealous of your optimistic nature.

Yea, I'd totally call some of you idiots to your faces if the conversation lead that way. Nothing to do with disagreeing with viewpoints.

Perfect example: anyone who claims the NDP will win/have a good chance of winning the election.

No they don't. That's retarded. The person is an idiot. They must be some form of stupid because there is nothing at all that remotely gets you logically to that conclusion. And if a conversation went that route, I'd certainly use those words. Really because at that point, the only possible hope of convincing that person of anything is to cause them any doubt possible in their thinking. Clearly logic and information is off the table at that point due to their ignorance.

Edit-
I totally agree that online/offline isn't that different. On a very, very shallow basis it is. But if you actually get to know the person at all? Nope. People are horrible judges of character. Didn't rage go on lunch dates with the real estate guy who scammed Beyonders? Scammed might be a strong word, but he was fully aware of it wasn't he?

Nobody has ever been convinced of anything after being called an idiot or a retard.

HiTempguy1

Convince them of what? I said doubt. Rarely is my goal in a conversation to convince someone of my position, because people are biased and have those biases deeply ingrained. Look at any "debate" that's ever shown on TV. Nobody goes "well now I'm convinced". To be clear, usually stating you think someone is "blank" (be it racist, homophobic, or stupid) is the end of the conversation.

It's been very rare I've seen anyone convince someone else of anything. A person decides whether they want to be enlightened. I've certainly seen people doubt their lines of thinking though. Doubt is what changes minds.

Edit-
Doubt comes from fear. Fear is certainly a powerful tool. I'm never going to convince, say specifically, you, of anything, nor vice versa, because we both clearly believe we are right in our thinking.

I'd agree.

But calling someone an idiot or retard isn't going to make them second guess their decisions. It's going to make them think you're the idiot/retard, or they'll just be offended and think you're an asshole.

I agree and disagree. I agree with the sentiment of your post - that doubt is what changes mind - but 100% disagree with how you choose to deliver that message. Talk to me like an asshole and I couldn't give a fuck what you have to say at that point. Talk to me like you recognize that I'm an intelligent person just like you are and it's much more likely that I'll be receptive towards your message.

+1. There are several personalities here who post that way but I find that most people like that are just in it to be right anyway. There's diminished accomplishment and productivity in talking to people who don't approach anything with at least a reasonable sense of humility.

Insulting someone doesn't cause any doubt. If anything it causes them to double down on their conviction even if its wrong. Your reaction to being called an idiot isn't "oh wait, maybe this person is right and I am an idiot" no its "fuck that guy, he can't have an intelligent convincing conversation so he resorts to insults, he's obviously got nothing and he's the idiot."

It must be so exhausting being always right and so angry all the time.
