Booking a hotel room for 2 people but actually having 3 people use it.

Thinking of booking a room in Vegas in April. There will be 3 of us in the room (2 queens), but it is cheaper if I book it under the guise of 2 people staying in it.

Think the hotel will notice and make me pay the extra? Should I even bother with this plan?

I've done quite a bit of travelling, and AFAIK the guest count is mostly so they know how many guests are in the room (in the event of emergency), how many cards to provide, as well as they don't want you packing 15 people in to a room with 2 beds.

When you select having 3 guests (vs 2), does it increase the price?

I did it in Vancouver last year. They wanted something like $75/night more for 3 people vs 2 people for the exact same room. Suffice to say I booked it for 2 people and avoided the obvious things all going to the front desk together. Worst that'll happen is they do notice and ask you to pay for that extra person.

If the added cost were reasonable and reflective of the additional usage (a little water, electricity, wear and tear) then I would have paid it, but it was just a total cash grab.

Makes me wonder what if you have invite a guest who doesn't plan to stay the night? How would they know who's a temporary guest and who's staying the night?

I have thought about doing this before, but never have actually done it. Worst I have done was have my mother-in-law stay with us in our AirBNB in Osaka a month ago, when the booking was only for myself and my wife. She came down from Kobe and stayed for 3 nights, but the apartment had 5 double beds, we used 3 of them, in my comment at the end to AirBNB host was that I was sick and had to sleep in a separate room for a few nights, thus the usage of an extra bed.

Usually they charge $10/20 per extra person in a room, in excess of 2.

We would go on ski trips and cram 8 of us in a room when we were in university lol. It is do-able if you want to save cash!

Venetian is a very nice hotel. Although I'd prefer NY NY for "casual fun". The rooms in venetian are very big though. Most (or all) have a sitting room area too. Find out if the venetian pool is done renovation, because of its not its a long walk to the palazzo pool.

Vegas doesn't really care, although for some events like EDC the fancier hotels do check the registered guest list. Just make sure you get a 2 bed room, often they'll 'upgrade' you to a single king bed if its only 2 on the reservation. For the pools they've only ever checked you have a room key and its usually 4 people per 1 key to get in the pool (assuming you all walk in together). Even if its 2 people per 1 key then just 2 go in, and then one come back out and 2 go back in again 5-10 min later.

My fav pool is the lazy river at MGM though. It's just a river that loops infinity and has a current so you can rent a tube and float around it forever. You meet some interesting people there and I find randoms are more social as you pass people and sometimes see them multiple times.

Just wanted to point out that I just recently did the "2" people booked into a room with 2 queens and had my kids in there for a total of 4 people. It would have been an extra $300US if I told them about my kids and for what? A few extra dirty towels? That makes for a good dinner. :thumbsup:

Actually they do charge extra at pretty much all places if you actually the full details, but they really have no way of knowing unless you're stupid enough to make it noticeable. Have done this multiple times but never been charged extra even though each place has stated an additional fee for extra people.

I've always disclosed the correct # of occupants to hotels and generally have found them to be very accommodating, offering a cot or something if the bed situation was not sufficient, extra towels, etc.
