Okay good. I was gonna raise a huge :bullshit: if you said it was an MR2 Turbo 'cause my friend had one and it raped, and I mean RAPED a 5th gen Prelude off the line.

Ya it was an older one - those things are surprisingly peppy off the line, but they couldn't compete after that...I steadily pulled past him even with some headstarts! Then he does some ricer flyby on 16th ave, I had no clue we were racing, he gets a good 2 car lengths ahead befor I shift down, and I still got him.

Yes the older ones came supercharged, and then they came with a turbocharged engine in 1991 and above. Those ones were pushing 200hp...Good levels of torque, and small frame = fast

When I drove my car down to Calgary, I did a couple stoplight to stoplight runs against a highly modified MR2 Turbo. The guy I was racing seemed really cool with the fact that he lost.. probably not something he was used to. Those MR2 turbos are like little NSXes/F355s and are definately sweet machines.

Yah I love mine, i wouldnt trade it for anything, when I get my NSX the MR2 is still goign to stay with me!

88 and 89 had the supercharged ones...

i believe it was more around the 180 hp mark... and for a damn light car like that... approx. 1500 lbs, expect the thing to fly...

hahaha... ever try getting the supercharger kicking in reverse down crowchild at 3:00 am :nut: :nut: :nut:

but yeah those old lil go carts are hella fun and pretty damn peppy N/A. hehe bol and I certainly had fun with that 86 mr2  :D

The 88 and 89 SC MR2's had no where near 180HP...they were at 145. The turbo's, 90 and above, had 200HP. Either way, quick for a go cart!

the old supercharged mr2's are actually pretty fast. i had a friend with a 93 prelude srv with bolt on mods that got beat by one. not sure what the mr2 had besides exhaust.

You put the hks pully, intake and exhaust on those old supercharged mr2's and it makes it just as fast as a stock turbo mr2

I think it's the weight advantage that the MR2's have over other cars. Between the older pre-88 style, and the newer 90 style, there is so little weight difference and they are all quite light. I have always loved those cars..my ex had one and we used to have so much fun with it...they are probably the funnest cars to drive!

Do you know about the japanese spec 91+ mr2 turbo models
the GTS model has 241 pony's and 220+ torque, and the 93
and up gen 3 has 255-260 pony's (stock). For a go kart so light and with a mid-engine rear set up which gives minimal drive-line
power lose, it can be pretty dam fast. w/ the proper mods you
can reach 300+ pony,s without nos, from a 4 banger.
